Why did my TV suddenly develop a thin vertical line on the screen?

It just developed in three or four days.

Is it light or dark?

The problem will only get worse over time. As the led backlight strips start to fail, it increases the current/voltage to the other strips in the array. This over voltage will cause the other leds to "burn out". It's technically fixable if you crack open the tv an replace the strips that are going bad, but with the cost of TV's these days the return isn't worth the effort. Ride with it until it becomes unbearable and replace it.

Same thing occurred recently with my 7 year old Sony Bravia. 1 dark line across the screen.

Costco or Sams usually have big savings, especially during their tech day sales. Some of the best prices will be in May, if your TV lasts that long.

I've got a 6 year old LG and the center 3rd of the TV is darker than the sides.
