What would you upgrade on this PC?

Ryzen 7 1700 8-Core 3.0 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo) CPU Processor | 500GB SSD – Up to 30x Faster Than Traditional HDD | A320M Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8GB GDDR6 Video Card | 16GB Gaming Memory DDR4 2400 with Heat Spreader | Windows 10 Home 64-bit
PCIe AC Wi-Fi with Antenna | No bloatware | 1 x HDMI, 3 x Display Port (Version 1.4) | 4 x USB 3.1 Gen1 Ports,2 x USB 2.0, 2 x USB 3.0 | HD Audio and Mic | Free RGB Keyboard & Mouse
3 x 120mm RING RGB LED Fans for Maximum Air Flow | Powered by 80 Plus Certified 600 Watt Power Supply | In Win 301 Tempered Glass Case – Black | AMD Wraith Spire LED Spire Cooler
its my first gaming pc, bought it off amazon and its run really well the past two years with dozens of newer games (escape from tarkov, hell let loose etc). im willing to put some extra money into it to improve performance but dont really know where to start. i can tell you a little about alot but ive never really dedicated the time to learning more about computers. i added an SSD for more storage already but can i get some suggestions on what you guys would do and why? TIA

Questions:
1) How much money are you willing to spend on upgrading?
2) What are your goals for this PC - do you do other stuff with it besides gaming?
3) What monitor and resolution do you play with?

I just replaced a laptop and opted for 1 TB SSD and 32 GB of RAM.
Previously had a 500 GB HD and 8 GB RAM on the CPU.
Also, wrt housekeeping, I have a batch file that deletes files in the temp folder and I store seldom used images, video, music files externally as opposed to the the CPU. In short, swapping the SSD and adding RAM could help.

1. I'm comfortable with like 500 but I can spend more over time if it's worth it.
2. 90% gaming, 10% work from home.
3.Thinlerain 24 Inch Monitor 144Hz FHD 1080p 2ms for Computer&Laptop. Nothin real fancy I don't think.

If your gaming at 1080p, honestly right now, I would keep your 2070 GPU. You may not get the highest refresh rates, but if your budget is $500, the biggest upgrade would be to upgrade your CPU and RAM.
I would grab a 5700x and better DDR4 RAM - DDR4-3200 or DDR4-3600.

Go with a CPU and RAM upgrade, saves you $200, and hold off on upgrading your GPU right now.
You do have an A320 Motherboard, so the 5700x should work, but check your Board's BIOS.

Can you figure out the exact SKU of your motherboard?
I agree with Bo that your #1 priority is upgrading your CPU, but which CPU I would suggest, and which other upgrades might make sense, are going to be a bit motherboard dependent, as the A320M platform is fairly feature poor.

I have a 5600X with an RX480 on an MSI X570 that is old compared to board standards. But my biggest concern in terms of price swings and when to take advantage is RAM. However, you need to have a motherboard plan before you execute on RAM. The RAM needs to be on the compatibility list of wherever you plan on going in the next 2-3 years.
I bought 64GB of DDR4 and got a great deal three ish years ago. 64GB is probably good for another 2 years. I play mostly 4X and Elder Scrolls Online. My RX480 is nearly older than my daughter, and it's fine.
You're two versions behind on PCIe, and on MicroATX. An SSD update for bigger storage is cheap and easy (2TB NVME drives are cheap), but you're not pulling the same speed, not that it matters considering what you use it for (v4 is now old news, v5 is the bigz deal now.) If you do NVME, you MUST, 100%, buy something with a heat sink. I monitor temps across the three drives I have installed, and where they are in the case, and whether they have a heatsink, and whether they're PCI 3 vs. 4 makes a monumental difference.
Thinking a bit of out of the box, what if you spent $100 to transfer to liquid cooling for the CPU? You can transfer it to a new build when needed, but it may help stop throttling. If you have a cat, it will f@*ing perch on top of the radiator if it's top venting. Cooling not effective :D

Check if your mobo can handle a 5600x. I have one sitting around that I can sell for cheap.

500GB SSD
- is this a SATA SSD or M.2? upgrade here.
16GB Gaming Memory DDR4 2400
- 16G of RAM @2400? 2400Mhz for RAM is FAR from fast, exactly midline, as the MB supports up to 3200
MB and CPU are just okay.
Overall quite a way from what is considered a 'gaming rig' by today's standards.

What is your current RAM configuration e.g. one stick, two sticks? What are the RAM options on your motherboard?
Generally speaking, system performance ranks as 4 sticks > 2 sticks > 1 stick

Not knocking anyone, but this thread has gotten crazy in the weeds in the context of upgrading an aging PC for gaming

For $500, you're kinda limited on what you can do if you're upgrading a "gaming PC" with today's prices other than CPU and RAM.
EDIT: And since he has A320, he might be limited on "upgrading RAM" too. Plus... hes got a prebuilt, and hopefully that motherboard can be swapped out.

For what he does, his gpu is fine, so I'm not super worried about price. But that's why I want to know the sku of the motherboard.
My inclination is to suggest he spend about $200 total on a nice budget CPU (probably take Benny up on his 5600x offer), a solid Gen 3 NVME m.2 drive that he can carry forward to a future build, and just ride that until he's ready for a full blown platform upgrade in another year or two. Worry about RAM and a cooler upgrade in the next build. Just no real need to add that expense to such a low end platform at end of life.
But I don't even know if his board has an m.2 NVME slot

two things are clear to me now, on the lower end of what i need to upgrade are cpu and RAM and the first two links seem like clear performance upgrades i can easily make.
the second thing is im basically a window licker and dont know where to begin detailing my specs to yall outside of what was listed on my specs sheet when i bought it. as far as motherboard and compatibility goes i can maybe fill yall in better if i knew where/how to retrieve that info
also dont get too hung up on the 500 dollar budget. ive got more if i need it but it depends on the upgrade and what id be getting out of it if that makes sense.

There's a very good chance you need to upgrade the motherboard along with a new CPU and RAM.

okie dokie, is that because the suggested RAM and CPU upgrades may not be compatible with the one i have?

Pretty sure he could plop a 5600x in that mobo right?
Would be a huge jump from the 1700

but its got pretty lights man

i appreciate the feedback. "good enough never is" and i just wanna learn more. when i get home i can maybe snap pics of the MB and count how many sticks of RAM im running. or at least try and get yall more info on how best to help me out.

Probably but without knowing the model of the motherboard I wouldn't say for certain. We are talking about a production built PC here and we know how they cut corners.

Go to Windows search and type in "system information". From the first summary page, tell us what's listed in the BaseBoard Manufacturer, BaseBoard Product, and BaseBoard Version lines. They are about a third of the way down from the top. Mine looks like this:
BaseBoard Manufacturer Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
BaseBoard Product MEG X570 UNIFY (MS-7C35)
BaseBoard Version 2.0
ETA: You can't right click copy out of that page, but you can click on each line one at a time, ctrl+c to copy, and then either right click in here or ctrl-v to paste.
