We all know that Google and FB store a ton of information about us, but the data they store can really go into detail. A guy named Dylan Curran wrote up a piece on what all Google actually stores on you. If you want to have a glimpse of what they store go to my activity If you want to download the files you can go to Takout

Here is a LINK to one of the articles written about it.

quote:

When he requested his data from Google, he found that it was constantly tracking his location in the background, including calculating how long it took to travel between different points, along with his hobbies, interests, possible weight and income, data on his apps and records of files he had deleted. And that's just for starters.

And if you want to know where all you have been over the past many years, just go to google maps and under menu select "your timeline"

This doesn't bother me. Watch:

Ok, I'm in New Orleans currently. Right this second, over by UNO.
quote:

including calculating how long it took to travel between different points

Good deal. Maybe it'll tell me how long to get home today or just if I'm a slow driver.
quote:

along with his hobbies,

Working out, watching Bama sports, and getting nagged by his wife.
quote:

interests

Bama sports and weight lifting
quote:

possible weight

Currently 188. Trying to get down to 180. Cutting phase for summer is kicking in.
quote:

income

Higher than 50k. Lower than 150k.
quote:

data on his apps and records of files he had deleted

Mostly google shite actually, so, you're welcome google. Congrats on making good products or at least buying them all like Nest, Google Wifi router, etc.

Was he really surprised by this? Is anyone surprised by this? How do people think Google Maps is so insanely accurate about travel times and up to the minute traffic? Because they know where a LOT of people are at all times, where they're going, and how fast they're moving. I use navigation even when I know where I'm going because Google can always get me there faster. Google could serve as the ultimate road traffic controller if everyone did the same, and congestion could be greatly reduced.

Turning off location tracking and history is easy, and it's not hidden or some big secret. To not know that Google tracks your location at all times requires you to be completely oblivious to the functions and features provided by your device.

when you first turned your phone on it asked, "Do you want to turn on location tracking"

Mine says "No activity", because I've turned off everything that I could - They probably still have records though...

Posted this on the same topic in the OT

My timeline feature on Google maps has every location I've been to since I think 2013-2014.
When I found out that I had that turned on a couple of years ago, it freaked me out.
I can find out exactly where I was on any given day, at any given time since 2014.
But I didnt turn it off and it's come in handy a few times.
But yeah we give up a lot of privacy because "it's just convenient."

I'd be more worried about them taking all of the metadata they collect when you do searches and stuff. Imagine the stuff they can piece together by looking at identifiers from your phone and computers, IP addresses, location, searches, etc.
