re: Waze App

Do the same police sightings go through maps as in Waze? As in if someone does something in Waze, it happens in Maps. I feel like maps needs a more robust system like waze. Maps is so minimized.
Maps just needs a more robust warning system and a planned trip system and it is better than Waze.
Waze has an issue with routing and being able to change during the drive.

ive always felt the opposite. i'll open both sometimes when there's potential traffic snarls and waze has always reported building traffic much quicker than maps and gotten me off the road before i'm stuck. google comes along like a snail and eventually reports the traffic buildup but only after its too late.

I do not miss the vehicle on side of the road warnings.

I'm talking about manual changes to the route. Like in my previous example where the route was only 1 min slower but I'd prefer to take it but Waze won't tell me while I'm passing possible reroutes what the eta would be going that direction. Maps does this.
So lets say I'm going down a route that is the fastest according to Waze and Maps (Choctaw). I hate Choctaw because the potential for increased duration is much higher due to ill timed traffic lights and horrible drivers. The road is also terrible with pot holes. A common route I like to take is Airline Hwy and there is a split that I could go either way. Airline is typically 1-2 min slower according to GPS but I ALWAYS get there faster because of better timed lights and better road conditions. When I get to that split, I want to know the ETAs at the time I reach that split in case one has a traffic build up. Waze can't do this but Maps can.
Waze also tends to want to go on high traffic areas because of businesses and such. It's for the advertisements. This isn't a problem typically. However, when I get my kids and I go back on Airline, if I drive south on Airline and reach a left turn signal, I will always sit through three lights because it's so short. Waze does not think of this. Maps has put me on the road that gets me to go straight through that intersection instead of going left. This has saved 10 min every time. The original Waze/Maps eta going south to that left turn lane will always build up to 10 min more.

So you guys don’t use the navigation built into the car/truck or does waze integrate with the vehicle? My navigation has built in traffic status and will redirect me if there is traffic issues.

I haven't found anything remotely as good as Waze at reporting traffic.

You find a place, and the option to navigate is right there. Plus just the whole "Hey Google, navigate to..." When I get a car/truck that works like this, maybe I'll use it.

I have XM Nav Traffic built into the navigation:
What is NavTraffic?
NavTraffic is a navigation tool that shows you color-coded traffic information including average speed and traffic flow, accident locations, road construction and other incidents. Helpful information about impacted roads and predicted delays is also available.

I'm probably canceling XM next time renewal comes.

Waze crowd-sourced traffic >>>>>>>> anything else

I call and work them down to usually $5 a month.

It's pretty damn accurate, even on non-highway streets.

That's per month. I wasn't clear looking back at it.

From their own website:
quote:
How accurate is NavTraffic data?
NavTraffic collects data from transportation departments, police and emergency services, traffic sensors and cameras, airborne reports and other sources. Accurate information is dependent on locating, verifying and reporting incidents as soon as they occur, and then transmitting to your navigation system's display.
Many of the traffic sensors and probes have inherent reporting delays of up to 20 minutes. We are constantly improving the accuracy of our traffic data. SiriusXM transmits updated information as soon as we receive it. It typically takes less than two minutes for traffic data to appear on your navigation system screen.

NO thank you. waze & google gets traffic buildup in near real-time based on dozens or hundreds of other vehicles using the app without anyone filing a single report.
quote:
Waze and Google Maps get their traffic data, collectively, from the users who have the app open and are driving. GPS data calculates where the traffic slowdowns are; users report accidents, road closures, police, etc.

And in the case of Google maps, I don't think you need to have the app open.
And I'm sure they share that with Waze.

Very first time I used Waze, I thought the damn thing was broken. It was telling me to get off on an exit that wasn't even remotely close to where I was going. I laughed at the dumb little app. Before I got to the next exit, I ran into the massive traffic jam backed up from a multi car crash with flipped over cars.
Now I bow down to the Mighty Waze and do what I am told.

The currently available Cookie Monster voice navigation in Waze is fricking awesome.
"Object reported on road ahead. C is for Careful. Yeah. And also for cookie."
The santa claus, Shaq, and Colonel Sanders ones were hilarious, too.
