My short, unsophisticated review.

No noticeable drop off in service, i.e. coverage, speed, etc.

Coverage uses VZW 4G network - can’t roam off network, but I never did with VZW. 5G is coming as well at no additional cost.

Speed. I’ve only ran one or two speed tests, behind a VPN on my phone and I averaged more than 50 Mbps both times. Good enough for me. Probably would have been better if I disabled my VPN.

Hotspot. Unlimited data which is a plus. Limited to 5 Mbps on hotspot use but video streaming from my iPhone to iPad (connected to hotspot) is crystal clear. No graininess. Not sure how this could or would work if I used a TV to connect to iPhone’s hotspot but for iPad screen size, no issues. Ran behind VPN as well.

Customer service is very responsive via Visible app. 24/7.

No contract. For 3 lines, I’m paying $90 total with taxes and fees. Compared to VZW, I was paying $225 per month. Another person is about to join our “Party Pay” and that will bring our total down to $25 per line or $75 total (other person is responsible for paying their own bill). This is for unlimited everything. No catches, no delays of text messages, etc. VZW can depriortize Visible customers if their network gets congested but I have not found this to be the case in the areas that I have used my phone - at all times of the day.

Only downside that I can find at this time is that I have to dial the area code of a number that isn’t stored in my phone book even if I am in my local area and calling local number.

Saving a tremendous amount of money. This is too good of a deal for anyone to pass up, IMO.

Verizon customer here. Did you get equal quality of coverage in rural areas as with Verizon?

Yes. When I was a VZW customer, I never roamed off of their network. Service could have been shite where I wish I could have roamed off their network, but I didn't.

The same would apply for Visible here as well. I was in Lumberton/Purvis MS last weekend and service for all the major carriers was/is terrible. CSPIRE apparently is the best carrier in this area. Those that had VZW/AT&T had very poor service - no one that I know of had the ability to roam onto CSPIRE, so all of us just hung onto 1 bar of service the majority of the time (my phone still worked but data and text message were delayed or very slow - just like VZW and AT&T customers).

Been on Visible for ~ 6 months. Unlimited hotspot was the draw.

Data speed sucks in New Orleans. Leaving this month.

What type of numbers are you seeing in New Orleans?

Have you attempted to chat with Visible’s customer support?

I ask because as long as the network isn’t congested - and nothing of importance is going on in N.O. at this time or really for last six months, you shouldn’t be deprioritized.

My last 5 speed tests have been:.41, .75, .93, .28 & 1.51 mbps.

Last month, there were a couple of days with no data.

I have not talked to support since the 4 day cluster of an activation / port of line.

It is really too bad, I wanted it to work. Would have stayed forever if they gave half way decent data.

That sucks to hear. I've had the exact opposite experience. SIM cards sent overnight next day after I ordered. Activation took less than 5 minutes per phone. And speeds that aren't any different from VZW as far as I can tell.

Hope it stays that way.

I've had it happen many times where my speeds go down to next to nothing - but if I go into airplane mode two or three times in a row, they usually come back up to a reasonable level. I do use the hot spot feature a lot, but the speeds that I am talking about are on the phone itself.

Two other things that sometimes have brought my speed back up are to delete the cache in the Visible app or reboot my Pixel 3.

It can be aggravating but I haven't tried to contact their customer service yet, because the last time that I talked with them, they absolutely did not know what they were talking about.

Thanks for the ideas.

I’ve had trouble from time to time in congested areas where the speed becomes unusable. Hasn’t happened recently, but I don’t think I’ve been in a crowded area recently.

For the cost savings on three lines, it’s worth it to me. If you must have good data service at all times, I would be hesitant.

It would be nice if there could be a visual representation on the phone when congestion is taking place.

Just find another person on reddit to join your party. It takes 1 minute. The only trouble I had in Nola is during the storm and everyone was on data instead of wifi, my speeds were slow. The $25 cost per month is such a huge savings over my $100 verizon bill I don't care though.

Using a VPN hides your video usage. If you turn it off, chances are your video will get throttled.

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if commercial VPN providers are throttled down the line. Sprint was already doing this on some lines.

Are you certain about this on Visible?

Since having the service, I have always used a VPN (and before switching). Seems like a company like Verizon would be “on” to this.

With military discount, paperless billing and autopay, I'm only paying $27/line for 5 lines (not including equipment charges, of course) on full Verizon.

In more rural areas, I don't think we'll have broad 5G coverage for another 18 to 24 months. I'm not even going to upgrade my phone until October 2021 at the earliest.

That's a great price. Do you have unlimited everything?

I have whatever the bottom tier unlimited is from 2 years ago.

ETA: "Start Unlimited" is the Verizion name for it.

I was on a shared plan and when we got phones in late 2018, the salesperson was extraordinarily helpful - she said, "You have this civilian gov discount, but didn't you say you were military? If you get your military discount on there, I can apply the discount to all equipment purchases and accessories. Also, I think you get a discount if you go with paperless billing and autopay. Call customer service once you see your military discount is confirmed."

My bill actually went down (slightly) from the shared play to unlimited on all lines after that.

It's a VPN, so your usage is masked. Verizon only knows how much data you're using, but can't tell if it is video or large files.

Before the merger was closed, Sprint had started to count VPN usage as hotspot usage as a way to stop the abusers. I'm pretty sure this will eventually become the norm in the industry. Throttling all VPN usage to 1.5 mbps and charging to remove the limit seems like another potential revenue stream for carriers.

It's probably just a matter of time.

Interesting, I didn’t realize this. I mean I understand how a VPN works and what it does. I just never put two and two together.

I don’t abuse it. I just like masking my whereabouts.
