Finding this surprisingly difficult. I am moving abroad in a few months and would like a relatively painless way to video conference with family/friends via tv rather than just phone/tablet/laptop (or mirroring through chromecast). Everyone needed for this has a firetv/stick/cube so I was trying to go webcam + sideload app route, but it seems like hooking up a USB webcam is still not particularly compatible due to driver support for android.

I am trying to avoid using something like FB's Portal bc of the proprietary technology, so that we can use Hangouts, Skype, etc in the event FB eventually cans the service and renders the hardware useless in 2 years.

Any ideas on easy-ish way to setup Hangouts/Skype/Zoom on TVs? Open to actual video-conferencing setups if anyone's used something they think might fit the bill. Not particularly price sensitive.

Uberconference is free. Does it have to be through the TV? If so you could just cast it.
