I'm looking at buying my parents a video doorbell. I looked at some reviews and seem to be leaning towards the nest hello. And adding the Google home hub. My parents aren't very tech savvy but aren't illiterate either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The best doorbell was easy to install with the videos instructions they have on the website.

Have had the Ring Pro for a year now, have really enjoyed it. Motion settings are easy to get dialed in and video has always been responsive and great quality.

I don't mind the $3/month for video storage.

My Nest Hello comes in tomorrow, I'm probably going to install it this weekend. I already have a nest Thermostat so I wanted the two in one app. I got the $5 a month package to keep 5 days of video at a time.

I have the nest hello. A few things to keep in mind. If they want to review past footage, they need to sign up for nest aware which is $3, $5, or $10 per month based on 3,5, and 10 day storage. May not be an issue but there is a fee associated. Also, make sure their existing doorbell chime can be configured for the nest hello. Most can but certain old door chimes have dated wiring and the nest hello needs to pull power from that mini transformer so it could require some additional work.

All that said, I like mine but I also have the nest eco system and enjoy it.

Installed the nest doorbell and a couple of the eco thermostats a few months ago and love them. The doorbell is awesome because I get a notification that someone is at my door before they even ring the doorbell usually, and it recognizes faces and will notify you if it is someone it recognizes or not.

I've owned the Ring Pro and now the Nest Hello.

From my experience, Nest is a superior product. I'd give Nest a 9 and Ring a 7.

I have the Nest Hello and the Hub.

I like how when someone rings the doorbell the video automatically pops up on my Hub. I also have a few google home / minis around the house, and when someone rings the doorbell they alert me in case I don’t hear the actual doorbell chime.

I was thinking about getting them 2 tablets so they can carry them room to room. For when the doorbell activates. I also saw spot of good reviews on the Lenovo hub. Any ideas?

Lenovo hub/screen is better than the google version. screen size helps out tremendously

This doesnt work as well as you might think, unless you really want to go down the wormhole of home automation hubs, home integration, etc.... However if the location is far enough away from the door or they will be in an activity that will keep them from getting to the door, they will help a bit.

It's more a security thing for my mom. Being able to see who is at the door before she walks to the door.

What is the main reason for setting up a door bell with camera?

Security (you live in a sketch hood or have vagrants snooping around all the time)

Don't feel like getting off the couch to answer the door when someone knocks.

Just like new tech gadgets.

I live in a gated neighborhood so don't have to worry about bums, thieves, Jehovah's witnesses, etc.

I suppose it would be cool in case I was out back grilling or drinking to be able to tell people to just come around back, but they likely have a cell phone I could text them on.

What are your top reasons for getting video doorbell?

I have kids in junior high and high school, so the fact that I can see them coming and going is nice. Its also nice if I am out in my shop I can see if the doorbell was just a package and don't have to stop what I'm doing to go answer it.

Been looking at the Nest Hello. I would also like 1 camera to place under the eve of my garage to watch my driveway/garage/backyard entry door. Anyone have the Nest outdoor security camera? Seem a little pricey but I'd like if it was in the same ecosystem.

So that my mom can see who is at the door before walking to answer it. It's mainly for when my dad is out of town. So it's for her security most of all.
