Has anyone ever tried this? We have DirecTV, and want to get something to watch the games during Thanksgiving. I'd normally use my phone as a hotspot, but reception where we'll be is terrible.

I was curious about the dishes on a tripod. Does anyone have experience with them? Will any antenna meant for your service work with any receiver? For a one time use, do you need to even get a separate dish, it just bring the one on your house?

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to satellite. DirecTV customer service was pretty worthless (they gave me a disconnected number to call to get info after a couple of transfers).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Coming to an LSU site, asking for help, all the while mocking LSU fans with your signature and picture... Good luck bud.

They type dish you need at the camp may be dependent upon the model receivers you have at home. Tell us what what model # receiver you plan to use.

Sounds like you are very new to the this. Trying to align an HD DirecTV dish is not easy and even if you know what you are doing can take an hour in a new location.

For new users the 18" round for SD channels is fairly easy with a compass and level. But unsure if your current receivers will work with one.

We switched to dish and started using the tailgater setup about 4 years ago.

I forgot i had them, since I'm always on Mobile. And i try to help on the tech board when it's a subject I'm familiar with. But out of respect, i took them down.

I cut the cord at my house. But my grandmother is still on DirecTV. I may have to talk to her about switching at some point. It's not like an 87 year old woman cares about football. Just a good price.

An hour?

All you need is your phone/compass and a cheap signal meter. takes about 2 minutes.

OP figure out what reciever box you have, from there you will determine you satellite, transponders, and if you need some in line shite

You have another main box, dont you? I dont think you can use the genie slaves as a stand alone in the field, but not 100%

See if you can find an older non Genie DTV box.

If you dont mind SD signal, its even cheaper for the entire setup.

Apartment complexes usually have lots of satellites in the maintenance area from when people move out
