After some digging around yesterday online I finally got it to work. It was thru my AV receiver but I had it plugged directly into the TV. As I said I'm not the most tech savvy. It sounds great now btw with no problems.

quote:Tablo ended up setting me up with the beta version of their firmware, which they say should resolve the scheduling problem (the Tablo should now update its time itself rather than relying on the time provided by another device). I'm not really sure how to test that it works other than by just waiting to see. Fingers crossed.
and the scheduling thing sounds like it could be an issue as well! keep us posted on any other problems related to that.
I did have one other issue relating to scheduling recordings, which was the other night some shows were apparently missing some data. As in, it knew what show was playing, but the detailed description was missing. Not a big deal aside from the fact that the missing information included the flag that tells it the episode is NEW, so the Tablo ignored it as if it were a rerun. A redownload of the guide data fixed this immediately, so I probably should have done that right after the firmware update. Actually, it should have done that itself, or Tablo support should have instructed me to do that. It refreshes itself once per day at like 3am, so maybe that's why they weren't concerned. And the only shows affected (that I noticed) were the late night talk shows (The Late Show, etc.), which a lot of times don't have detailed info available as far in advance as typical programming. Regardless, all is well now, but that's just something else I will keep an eye on.
Even with all the problems, I still like the damned thing.

If I have 2 Roku 3s, can I use the same Sling TV account on each?

I have an android tv, a Roku 3, a Roku 2, 2 roku sticks and a fire stick and use the same sling account on all. still can only watch it on one device though.

Thanks.
I'm trying to pick the most family friendly cord cutting choice. I would go with a kodi box if it was just me, but doing that would leave 3 other people frustrated.

I'm finally looking at getting rid of DirecTv and going with 3 Fire TV (boxes), PS Vue, and a Tablo/Antenna. Hadn't heard of Tablo before this thread. The integration with the FireTv seems to really seal the deal for me. My soon-to-be wife will fare much better if everything is on the same platform.

In addition to the Tablo itself, you will need to buy a USB hard drive for storage. You will also probably want to subscribe to the guide data (this also gets you the remote viewing service). If you get the lifetime subscription for $150, you're looking at an almost $500 total investment. That's a lot of months of Hulu and CBS All Access, assuming you will primarily use it for recording shows that are available on those services. The main thing that swayed me was that the Tablo gives me DVR functionality to live OTA TV, which I don't think I could do without during football season.

Another thing to mention is the possibility of Vue getting locals. Isn't that something that's being talked about and someone...maybe vermilion? mentioned they may have prior to football season?

And this is what seals the deal for me. I'd be fine with the fiance watching whatever network shows she watches a day later, but football season is the killer for me.

I hope Vue stays away from the locals
I already catch them OTA and don't want to pay $10 for something that I catch for free

my antenna is getting delivered today so i'll be checking my OTA's this weekend. if all goes well, tablo is being ordered this weekend.
i think i'll have to make some sort of laminated sheet (like sean payton has for his plays) showing my wife where all her shows are. She understands the roku platform but it's a big switch. Once she realizes that instead of the 5 Friends episodes that are on our DTV DVR she has access to every episode, i'm sure she'll love it.

She know's that Friends is on Netflix, right?
Posted on 3/31/16 at 11:38 am to VermilionTiger
well, i know. and if i have the choice between explaining it to her or letting her watch the way she always has, i'm going with the path of least resistance.

Anyone using an antenna with success in Gonzales/Pville area? If so which one? I considered building the one that Vermilion built, but I went to walmart late last night to get the transformer and they didn't have any and now I'm pissed and considering just buying one for the attic

Just cut the cord yesterday. I have fire tv and playstation 3.
Use PlayStation vue for live tv and recording.
Also have Hulu, Netflix and amazon prime. I use an OTA antenna installed in attic split to 3 tv's to catch locals.
I went with vue instead of sling because of the dvr option and can also stream up to 5 tv's at the same time with one account instead of just one from sling. Looking to install kodi soon.
btw..Very cool thread glad I found it.

I'm sure you could get it from Radioshack, or Best Buy, or Home Depot.

Just buy the transformer from amazon.
It'll take 2 days but it's like $5
