UPDATE 1 week in: any tmobile users add the car sync wifi thingie to their plan?

seems too good to be true:
- device plugs into vehicle OBC connector in a couple of minutes
- can move it between vehicles so can put it on the one you're using at the time
- WiFi for up to 5 devices
- will track lost/stolen vehicle
- Maintenance reminders, recall information, fuel levels, battery life, car trouble alerts, and more can be sent straight to your phone
- can use it to track speed, etc for your teenagers
- free roadside assistance
- $10/mo
a few other things i'm leaving out but this is great for the occasional road trip so the kids can enjoy their tablets & ipods (yes my 10yo daughter still has an ipod)
dont need more than one because i figure we'll only really take advantage of this on road trips and we'll be in the same car.
not seeing a downside.

Unless you are tracking the vehicle for your kids... I don't see any benefit.
Can't you just hotspot your phone for other devices?

Yeah but then I burn all my data and it would be nice if the little guy is using the iPad and can get to his games.

Yeah but then I burn all my data

I have 4GB/line of data I should have clarified.
not getting unlimited data on 5 lines for 100/mo.
I get unlimited music and and video but that doesn't work for devices using my phone as a hotspot.

What if you added a mifi to you plan? Would it simply be the 4GB/line?
How much data does this car sync allow per month? This appears to be the only potential downside.
if you move between vehicles, does it track all vehicles used or just the one it is currently plugged into?
These options may make it worth it regardless of the other answers. The cheapest roadside assistance I have seen is $7/month through my insurance.

i can't really break my current 5 phones (family plan) without blowing up this great deal completely so limited in how much can be done with existing lines

2GB. if i wanted 6GB i think its $15/mo but if you go with 6 or more the unused data rolls over and accumulates. i'm dipping a toe in the water with the 2GB to see how this works for me.

you can buy other devices ($72 ea) but the one device supports multiple vehicles so i'd rather just move it to the car we're travelling in for now and not buy additional ones.

I wish we could add that for the retarded add-a-line requirements they keep wanting to impose for existing customers to take advantage of the BOGO deals on the Samsung phones.

bump.
so far i'm loving this device but its a bit scary
it is tracking
- all my driving; hard accelerations, braking, etc
- max speed
- daily chart of battery voltage
- fuel level
- pulls your VIN in automatically
- i manually keyed in ODO. surprised it didn't get that info too
- gps map of my trips which i can 'relive'
- notices when i get in my truck but am not starting it and flags it as 'potential tampering'
- wifi seems great; hardly used any data yet but the ipods & ipads and even my laptop is now good to go. nice to have wifi always around if i need to jump on a webex on my laptop without having to finagle with my phone & turn on a hotspot (that i may forget to turn off later)
- you can plug it into multiple vehicles and give them names so its easy to move around.
my biggest issue is that as 'theft prevention' its virtually useless as the thing sticks out between my legs (ford OBC interface) and would take all of 3 secs to chuck it out the window.
cant imagine anyone sophisticated enough to steal a modern vehicle wouldn't notice a dongle sticking out of the vehicle's OBC and realize what it is.

Wouldn't be surprised if they make extension cables to get the device hidden under the dash.
