My iPhone 8+ 256gb is on its last leg. My company pays the bill and for the phone itself.

Company is trying to cut costs after an obviously tough year so iPhone 11 128gb is the best option I can get. I’m retaining the same phone number. I received the new phone today.

What I would like to do is unlock this iPhone 11 ATT to sell on eBay and go buy my own 12 with a larger hard drive.

Few questions I have: Can I unlock this phone merely by having the IMEI and Serial Number available? Or will I need to break open the sealed package and remove the SIM card? Also, will I have issues retaining my phone number for the iPhone 12? I’m guessing I will have to contact ATT at some point through this.

Have you tried putting another SIM card in it? Most automatically unlock. ATT has a form to fill out if not, circa 2016 knowledge lol.

Well it’s still sealed in the box so I was hoping to avoid that.

Also, would be super fricked if I lose my number.

Can you just bring it to the AT&T store and see if they will let you exchange it for the 12 and you just pay the difference?

I thought about trying that.

Didn’t know if they’d be able to give me value for something I didn’t pay for though.

They should. If the phone is paid off, has no water damage, and has not been blacklisted as stolen/lost, then AT&T should accept it.

There are thousands of people who buy used phones just to trade them in during promotional periods.

Not sure about that, but I will say that my Mom traded in her iPhone 8 Plus for an iPhone 12 Pro Max at AT&T a couple of days ago and got a $700 trade in value.

Did she retain existing service or did she have to sign new contract?
