I want the hue lighting in my living room and master bedroom and possibly in my master bathroom (just in the shower) if i can manage that in a cost efficient manner
thats vague. hue lights come in a19, recessed, BR30, candelabra, led strips and bloom/iris 'spotlights' that you can hide behind furniture.
all are zigBee which means you can put hue all over your house and even outside and down the road and there will never be a problem with the hub connecting with any of them. range is not a problem.
for strips, you should consider how they are going to be hidden and how they are going to get power. also i think they are limited to 36 feet on a single strip so factor in electrical drops if you need longer runs for a second strip.
finally, consider color v white. personally if you can afford it, go all color since that not only allows you to change the color as you see fit, but provides the ability to 'tune' the whites as well so you can go from soft white to more of a harsh 'concentrate' blue-white when you need to see what you're doing.
so in short, hue comes in all shapes and sizes and i don't think you need to worry about the bulb form-factors but you will need to plan the lightstrip locations if you want them hidden.

Solid info, thanks... I know in the living room, which isn't huge, I'm probably going to have recessed lighting in the ceiling and it'll probably be the same in the bedroom
Yes - I want colors.. that's my main reason for wanting to go with HUE... I just can't wrap my head around what I need to get started.. all need is a hub and lights? Is it that simple? Sorry if I sound ignorant, I'm not as tech savvy as you and a lot of people here are

consider the white bulbs (they will still dim) for maybe hallway lights or something if you don't think you'll ever want to change the colors.
yes, a hub starter kit (on clearance right now at home depot for $100 if you hurry!) contains 3 gen3 colored a19 bulbs and a HUB.
that's all you need to get started. after that you can buy anything in the hue-and-friends-of-hue universe without any additional hubs, etc.
one hub will cover your house and down the street if needed.
after that you just buy lights as needed.
ETA IMPORTANT!!!! if you go with gen3 colored bulbs, you're stuck buying those. if you try to mix gen2 (or gen1) colored bulbs in your setup, the colors will mess up if you're trying to change them all to say, purple at the same time and that will annoy you that you can't set them all to a consistent shade of green, for example.
avoid problems, if you buy a gen3 starter kit, make sure any bulbs you buy are the same.
this doesn't apply to lightstrips, just the bulbs.
eta2 also get a google home or amazon dot to go along with the hue. great for walking through a room and randomly saying 'alexa dim the kitchen 50%'.

If you ran the code against the Database, you should be able to pull the code out of a system table that stores sql history.
