UPDATE: Both bills stuck in committee as Texas legislature adjourned.
Outside of any special sessions called by the Governor that’s it for state legislature in Texas until its next regular session in 2021.

Stupid. Are they trying to put low voltage companies out of business? A licensed electrician to pull CAT6 just because it's for POE? Do they not want data centers in Texas anymore because data centers don't want to pay electricians rates to pull CAT6 when it's going to be used for POE.
Caveat: I own a company that pulls a lot of low voltage cabling.

Its not a bad idea, its bad execution. They need to make a license specifically for low voltage contractors, so they can get rid of some of the hack jobs out there.

Agreed. They also need a permitting process where a licensed low voltage company can pull their own permits. Electricians up here charge up to a $1500 fee to pull a low voltage permit.

A lot of these companies are subcontractors to an electrical company. Hopefully they are hiring hack jobs for big projects.

Yeah. I really don’t see how they think this would be enforced.

I don't like it. How would an electrician know which switches and devices are what types of POE anyway? What are they going to do differently? I could see maybe if we're talking runs that go outside of buildings, but in offices, it's so straight forward.
Has there been a rash of fires caused from improperly running POE? Speaker wires carry power over them too.

The Texas Legislature meets in regular session on the second Tuesday in January of each odd-numbered year. The Texas Constitution limits the regular session to 140 calendar days... Only the governor may call the Legislature into special sessions, unlike other states where the legislature may call itself into session. The governor may call as many sessions as he or she desires.

Unless issue is worthy of a special session its dead until Jan 2021.
