Appear to be no longer offered. I realize they aren’t the best in class, but they did offer a tremendous value and features.

I’ve had one for several years and have had no issues whatsoever. It looks like HiSense has replaced TCL.

I like buying from Costco due to their extended warranty on top of manufacture’s warranty.

Which TV would you recommend for a new gaming system? Is 2.1 HDMI and 120Hz a must?

I mean, it is if you want your new gaming system to be able to output 4K at 120Hz. It’s not if you don’t.

Since I don’t buy TVs regularly, I think “future proofing” as much as I can for what I want to spend (as little as possible) makes sense, especially if this TV will be used to hook up to a new gaming system.

The new gaming systems aren't doing 4K 120Hz anyways. Upscaled and 60 for 99% of titles.

HDMI 2.1 was widely overblown to get you to buy a new TV. And also has had a whole host of issues.

I read there are two or three games that will be at 120Hz, obviously very minimal, but I suspect more will follow?

The issues with 2.1, can those be resolved with a firmware update?

You don't need HDMI2.1 for 120Hz, it's very likely not native 4K/120 they aren't near powerful enough consoles unless it's like a 2D platformer.

What are the HDMI 2.1 issues you speak of?

I thought ultimate was recommending LG OLED on every post? Did something happen?

I'm against OLED tech... Never pumped LG. Samsung and TCL were my pumps. OLED is an already outdated tech with nowhere to go until MicroLED sends it the way of the plasma. Doesn't mean they aren't great especially still now.

You are confused.

To be fair improvements have already been made in OLED tech, and will continue for some time.

However, I do agree microLED is the future, but we are still quite a ways out till it is an option for most consumers.

Appreciate the information.

Are TCL TVs now a brand to shy away from? I am aware there are better options (and more expensive), but I'm trying to keep the price in mind as well.

This brand, especially at Costco, seemed to represent a great value for most people. This will be a "backup" TV to be used on a gaming system.

Eventually, when I decide to upgrade our living room TV, I'll look at Sony first and probably LG second.

Picked up this one at Costco a few weeks ago at $1169 I believe. Great TV and has HDMI 2.1

LINK

They should come down again when the new models come out which is soon.

Edit: Actually I got the 65", not the linked 75". They don't seem to have it on their page anymore. Might be sold out and getting ready for new lineup. BestBuy still has it. Might go on sale soon.

I wouldn't say shy away from no, TCL has made the best bang for buck TVs for a couple years running now.

You just have to keep in mind what you're getting for the money and where they cut corners to price them so well.

Yes and no, the tech itself is tapped out but companies can still do minor tweaks for minor improvements but you're not going to see any real changes as the tech itself is maxed and doesn't have anywhere to go until a new tech like MicroLED is ready to kill it off.

I mean you are right in a sense. But really just depends on your definition of "minor".

The new LG Panels this year are offering a 25% improvement in brightness. For OLED that was a fairly needed improvement. As higher end sets did not compete as well in HDR content, one of its few disadvantages.

Back to the topic, main reason I mentioned it. Is we are sort of stuck at the moment with microLED so far off.

I am very satisfied with my Hisense, being an Android TV is a huge bonus, a bonus that I didn't know I was looking for.

Yeah, but you can never believe companies when they toss out numbers.

The 2020 LG CX is quite a bit brighter than the 2021 LG C1 for example.

Those are basically the same panel. The evo panel put in the G series or the Sony a90j, has already been tested to back up their claims.
