The app is called wemessage. It requires some configuration. But once you get it going its great.
But the Mac has to be turned on, running, and on the same wifi network as you.
Which means it isn't realistic to use in a real world scenario at all.

Not true at all. You just need your public IP and forward port TCP 22222. Once you do that it works everywhere you go. You may have watched an older video.
As for leaving my Mac on. I have a 2014 MacBook Air that means nothing to me since I will never buy a Mac again due to the hardware components being ignorantly overpriced. I bought it to before I went into the IT world.

Use either google drive or the actual Microsoft Office apps.
