Suunto 7 vs Apple Watch Series 5

Ok so 1st world problems but I currently have an Apple Watch series 5. I like it, it’s fine. However looking for more of a rugged watch that has watchOS and the Suunto 7 caught my eye.
Anyone have the suunto 7? And use it with iPhone?
Curious if I can use the “hey google” functionality on the watchOS with an iPhone?

Messages and notifications wont work for any non-apple watch. Smart assistants also won’t work. If you are looking for rugged with your current series 5, I might recommend looking at a rugged case or bumper for your watch, instead.

Google Assistant is in the apple app store, LINK. So obviously it can work on an iOS device. The docs for the watch also say that all you need for google assistant is an internet connection, whether it be through wifi or your phone, LINK. I'm not saying it works, OP. But, if you are interested in the watch I would not take the guy's advice above at face value. It should be a pretty easy question to get an answer to if you are willing to do the slightest amount of work to get it. He's probably right about the notifications though.

Can you reply? My wife has an iPhone with a Michael Kors watch and she gets messages and notifications but she can't reply.

It sounds like if you have an iPhone with that suunto 7, you can get messages but not reply. You can use “hey google” but only via WiFi, not if you’re out and only have your iPhone.
Same with Samsung watches.
Hmm. Decisions.

Anyone have the suunto 7? I used to have a suunto core military and it was a beast.
ETA: can one use google pay for in store purchases with an iPhone? For example, I use my Apple Watch to pay for stuff at Walgreens, rouses grocery, etc. could I use the suunto/any watch that has google pay with an iPhone that has the google pay app?

I can reply with my Garmin fenix 5x, but only stock and custom replies(added in Garmin Connect) from a drop down. I'm on android, so your mileage may vary.

Garmin Fenix 6 pro on Android here. I can reply from a nearly unlimited list of custom canned messages. Can also use Garmin pay on the watch. Get notifications for nearly everything, FB, google, email, even my TD Ameritrade app.
I looked hard at the Suunto watched but glad I went Garmin. Only regret was not opting for the Ti model for a few grams of weight savings only because I do everything (sleep, eat, run, swim, work out, and drink) with this thing on.
