Suddenlink sent me a data limit warning...

Last week, I received a message from Suddenlink stating that I had exceeded my 350 GB monthly data limit, and that if I exceed it 3 or more times, I will start getting charged for the overuse (no idea how much I'd get charged). I imagine that the kids' streaming of Netflix and YouTube (and my occasional visit to pornhub's website) are the main reasons for my data usage being so high. Also, in January, I installed surveillance cameras outside of my house, and they are constantly connected to the internet so that I can view them remotely. However, I didn't go over my data limit until earlier this month. Has anyone else with Suddenlink received the same data limit warning?

As of last month I'm suddenly magically using twice as much bandwidth doing the same exact things as before. I have Cox, and no doubt they are about to start charging for overages too.

No doubt cox is about to start bumping the "cord cutters" up to the maximum plan. They are going to get their money.

Why are your cameras constantly streaming? You can use your local network, then have an access remotely to a VMS server and login when you want to see your cameras. Depending on the frame rate and resolution, you could be using tons of bandwith. The next question, though, is whether or not your cap is based on upload or download.... or both.
I've been with Verizon FIOS since 2005 and they've never capped data to this point. I guess that ould change, but so far so good.

Happened to me on Verizon when I went from unlimited to 6gb on my phone. I hadn't ever gone over 6gb in the two years leading up to me getting rid of the unlimited.
The first month after the switch, I hit 9gb. Second month 12gb. Third month was 17gb. I called and bitched, and they did something and I haven't hit 6 ever since. Theiving mother frickers thinking I wasn't gonna catch that because I had it on autopay

I got it probably 6 or so times over a 2-year period. They never did anything other than send e-mails saying "hey you're using a lot of data! here's how to cut back!" like it was an electric bill or something. I was on their biggest plan for my area at the time though.

I'm with suddenlink and it happened to us last month. They said we went from using around 70 GB a month to 175. It was total bullshite. They actually cut our connection until we answered their email.

I'm not quite sure what all of that means. I am somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to networking. As for the data usage warning, I honestly think it's the cable companies' way to prepare for losing customers who are currently paying for cable TV and are planning on cutting the cable soon for streaming content.
