I have most of the popular streaming devices, Fire Stick 4K, Fire Cube, Multiple Fire Tv's, Roku, Ruku 4K, Roku Ultra, and nVidia Shield (2019). The only time I have had the issue I think you are referring to is with the Fire Stick/Cube/TV when the device would catch an update. My wife, no pics, and I prefer the Fire TV format to the others and we use it the most.
Pluto updates are the worst for changing everything in the guide and what it defaults to on startup.

On android my last show shows under the app list even on different apps. It had a shortcut to resume that show on whatever app if that makes sense. On my Sony TV and Nvidia shield.

Sick and tired of Firestivk becoming unbearably slow after a year or so and having to restart it all the time.

What do you recommend as a replacement? We mostly watch Disney; DIRECTV, and netflix

I’ve recently purchased a chrome cast 4k and it works well but the remote is kind of cheap and feels like a knock off of the appletv.

The Roku ultra is still a better device imo. Though it does cost a little more.

Actually just go into "Manage apps" and select the apps you use most (or go through all of your apps), "Force Stop", then "Clear Cache," should clear up the slow load times. Also, if you have a Fire Device of any kind that is low on storage space, that slows them way down. Connect an external drive and off load as many installed apps to the external storage device. This will speed your Fire TV device back up to new speeds, but ... Depending on what type of external drive you use, the apps off loaded to the external will load a little slower, but once loaded, they will run just fine.

There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to add external storage to a Fire Stick, Cube, or TV.

I'm full boomer when it comes to streaming. I HATE all remotes that don't have numbers on it. I know, I know, that's dumb, but I hate streaming TV.
