“Stolen device protection” was turned on. My Face ID no longer works. Can anyone help?

So apparently my phone updated overnight and “stolen device protection” was enabled without me turning it on. Now my Face ID no longer works. To reset Face ID, set an alternate Face ID, or turn stolen device protection off, all require Face ID which no longer works. I restarted my phone, made sure the camera was unobstructed, and I’m on the newest iOS.
Can anyone help??

You're injured and your loved ones need to get into your phone?

Additionally, since apple routinely shares personal data with other companies, congrats on having your biometric data out there for apple to exploit/sell.

A lot of douches in here.
Anyway… in case it can help someone else.
Had to back up phone.
Restore in recovery mode to wipe phone of all data.
Open like new phone.
Don’t set passcode or FaceID.
Restore backup.
Problem solved.

Not being a douche. I honestly can't figure one legit reason to enable a feature that unlocks my phone my holding it up to my face (or any other biometric data for thatmatter). If you have one, please enlightening me.

You can still use a code if the face id fails

I have sensitive data in my phone including client’s info.
Someone can hack your passcode much easier than hacking your face.

While we've all been told about that's a threat, have you every REALLY heard of that happening to anyone? Plus if I lose my phone I have the ability to wipe it remotely.
