That's sucks I was coming in here to see how much you liked it. So you still going to try one?

Tiger wise is there any use for a old Sonos bridge?

I agree with you. We buy Sonos through a distributor because I sell very little and the margins are razor thin. Like so thin that it doesn't make sense to sell them. Half price for one is a huge red flag. There isn't a reseller on earth that gets that price.

Second time's the charm. Got an open box white Sonos:3 from Newegg for $199.

So far.. It was ridiculously easy to set up. Ridiculous.

Second it sounds great and will play YOUR PHONE version of Google play via WiFi which is way better than the Google play built into the Sonos app.

It will also play Spotify from your phone app except the "special" version I have won't allow that. Just go into Sonos settings and enable the Spotify connect option.

There is support for local media servers and UPnP so I'm going to see if I can stream my flac files to it.

There is no Bluetooth nonsense. I repeat: there is no Bluetooth nonsense.

So far I'm happy. This speaker fills the room with sound and I know I'll need to add a couple of 1s to get true stereo or take advantage of the syncing.

Monoprice sells a $6 mount for this speaker with great reviews so I will probably get that.

Finally its got some room calibration nonsense that I can use but only via iOS app so I'll have to borrow the wife's phone to test that.

You know that's a really good comparison Sonos and Apple. Pricy...but good, easy, and just works.

I have one I don't need now just wasn't sure of what I can do with it if anything. All my stuff is hard wired now.

Glad to hear you like it. Get one of there subs to try.

Yup, you don't need it. If you were having connectivity issues and you couldn't hardwire any of you devices then it would be useful.

Ok, roughly a month later and I'm still a happy camper.

I've decided a few things:

1. i can sell my sonos for damn near what i paid if i decide to ditch it.

2. monoprice makes HANDS-DOWN the best & cheapest mount for these ($6)

3. they are great for 'prototyping' as you can move them around in the various rooms of your house as you're trying to figure out the best placement for sound if you ultimately decide to hardwire your sound, you can pretty much sell your sonos to anyone.

4. they're just so damn easy. i spent years futzing around with surround setups and fishing speaker wire under the carpet or drilling holes in the hardwood and crawling around under the house to run wires and i'm pretty much done with that phase of my life. DONE. Deh. Oh. In. E. done.

5. less 'messy'. i'm a hard-wired zealot but sonos has done it right with regards to wireless. so easy to just move them around wherever until you have the sound dialed in without that 'oh frick now i have to cut and run a new speaker wire' moment.

6. sound quality is great although i miss a true sub..not happening in my lifetime buying a $700 sonos sub. NOT HAPPENING.

7. wifi music streaming is the shite. frick bluetooth speakers

8. stereo pairing is the shite and if/when i buy for other rooms in the house its awesome how easy it is to create 'rooms' or various configurations so you can channel your music in dozens of different combinations. its like the 'hue lighting' of music. beats the shite out of hardwired 1990s AVR "zone 2" option. once you pick up on this, you'll realize how limiting 'zone 2' actually is. i can't imagine going back to 'zone 2' now that i see how flexible sonos is.

9. frick tigerwise's snarky comments that will show up shortly.

10. see #9.

Agree 100%.

Is amazing, isn't it! I can't tell you how much we love our 2 Play:1's in our girls room. We set the radio to "spa music" to turn on at 7pm and play until 2am. My wife and I can individually run errands and not have to worry about signal cutting out if phone gets too far, etc.

I'm saving Amazon Rewards points for this purchase. I'd prefer to save about 400$ - 500$ in points and then only spend 100-200$ of my own cash on the sub.

i had to get sonos to 'get' it.

once you realize just how flexible this system is you'll kick yourself for ever going with 'dumb' hard-wired speakers.

the only problem now is cost its going to take awhile to bring music to my entire house.

It's hard to argue with CAD when it comes to price. He doesn't see the value in things and how they can fit in his bubble. Funny SONOS is fricking expensive and people ask for it all the time. Can't even sell them anything else even if it's a cheaper alternative.

see my comments about speaker wiring hassle. its hard to argue 'zone 2' is a viable alternative to what sonos can do.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Once again I think you are only thinking of the application of your bubble. There are many alternatives, even SONOS like products. It all depends on what you are trying to do.

i saw him mention mounts but does sonos make any in-wall or in-ceiling speakers?

I don't think i'd trade my stuff for speakers that are on mounts.

you can set up 'groups' with sonos:

- want all speakers in the house playing same music? no problem

- want one speaker playing audio from the tv? no problem

- want different music in each of your kid's rooms? no problem

- want to set the speaker in your bedroom to go to sleep at midnight but want the speakers in your kids' rooms to go off at 9pm? no problem

- want the speaker in your bedroom to wake you up and the speaker in your living room to start the morning with jazz music? no problem

- want to extend your tv speaker throughout your entire house? no problem

- want 3 rooms to play jazz and 2 rooms to play rock music? no problem

- want to move your speakers around as you change room configuration? no problem .. no wires to restring and hide.
