Sonos - Initial Set up

I bought an arc and amp the other day and I must say the initial set up has really been a PITA. I'm reading the new app is causing a lot of issues but I thought one of the selling points of Sonos was ease of use/user friendly. I may just be wrong on that.
Connecting the arc and amp to my tv/speakers isn't hard, but getting all of these things into the app...I am still unsuccessful. I was finally able to pair the arc up but it needed to go through an update and just kept saying it failed the update and cannot connect to the app.
Am I just a complete moron here?

No, Sonos is great when it works and is working, but setup and repair can be a PITA. I had to migrate my setup to my new routers a couple weeks ago and it was not fun. One of my subs is still not set up.
That said, having a Sonos device (the first device) plugged into Ethernet and then adding new devices is the way I’ve found to remove most of the setup and networking issues.

this will definitely help if you have the ability to do it.
and the app is still crap. every time i log in i expect to see 'system not found' and i just hang out on that screen for 30-60 seconds and it will eventually show up. embarrassing that i have to sit like an idiot holding my phone for 60 seconds before i can hit 'play music'.
and yes, i'm on sonosnet :/ this is fricking ridiculous, sonos. you just want someone else to take over your market? because this is how someone else moves in and takes over.

I think I figured out my main issue. I have my wifi coming into my house on X network, then my google mesh on Y network. I was plugging the arc directly into the modem/router but my ipad/iphone were connected to my mesh network.
Connected to my original service provider network and was able to set up the arc. Went into the app and switched networks by plugging my arc then directly into my mesh network device.
Now on to the amp.
Question though - I am running a sonos arc, sonos amp hooked to non sonos in cieling surround speakers. I've already tied them into the banan clips and all - should i expect it to just work with surround once I get the amp set up?

I stand corrected - I am back to no products found on my app. WTF

I have two Sonos systems now on a eero mesh system (with a third being added soon):
1. Arc, 2 x Era 300s, and a Sub
2. Playbar and 2 x Ones
Setup 1 almost always appears in the Sonos app if I'm right next to Setup 1 and I'm close to a eero hub.
Setup 2 never appears in the Sonos app, no matter what I do (I can't connect any devices via an ethernet cable based on where my fiber modem/router is located). However, Setup 2 still works with the tv it's connected to, and if I'm near Setup 2, I can open the Pandora app and still stream music through the Sonos speakers in Setup 2.
It's all very frustrating.

I was going to ask you what you were using the amp for. I think it's relatively rare that people use them as a part of their home theater. You'll probably have to tell the arc to add a pair of surrounds and it will grab them and tie them to the Arc.
I've got an amp as well but use it to push patio speakers.

I'm trying to tie it into my surround. I have another amp powering speakers in a sitting room. Need to figure out how to play the surround through my inceiling speakers connected to my amp.

Should I expect my airplay to work on my arc? Already getting an error.
Posted on 7/18/24 at 3:29 pm to Sherman Klump
whats the error? airplay should work on most newer sonos products and i would expect the arc to fall under that.

“Unable to connect to Den” which is the Sonos room I labeled it.
Seems like I will have to factory reset which I am loathing.

Following. I have a Sonos system and this information may be useful in the future.

Alright - decided to do a factory reset since my AirPlay wasn’t working on any app (Spotify, Amazon, YouTube etc)
Took me 11 minutes to redo the set up after the initial 5 or so hours spent on the first set up. Couple things I made sure to do:
1) hardware the arc to my mesh network…not my modem. Mistake I made original go round and had me stumped but I kept forgetting my devices weren’t on the modem network rather my mesh.
2) used an iPad and not my phone. Seamless.
After that, it was easy peasy. AirPlay worked for everything after reset. I think I have this figured out until the next mind numbing problem.

Good to hear. I'm about fed up myself.
We have Spotify, Apple music, Plex, Amazon prime and Pandora hooked up.
Half of those music services will play for about 5-10 seconds then stop.
Infuriating.
I have to reopen my phone and hit play again. Only for it to happen again. Maybe the 3rd time it will work. This was Spotify yesterday. Day before it was apple music.
Then when it does work I can't change the volume on grouped speakers. The lag is out of control. I change the the volume on the phone...it doesn't change and the slider on the phone jumps back to the original volume. 2 or 3x this happens while music is blaring and I'm unable to adjust it.
Then I'm in the kitchen cooking later and I realize it's gone SILENT yet again. Just up and decided a few songs into an endless playlist to just stop.
I was so aggravated when we had friends over the other night I broke down and fired up a Sonos station thinking that would work better..it did... If consider "working" an ad after every 2 songs.
I'm about ready to throw the whole system out the window.
I've had this system for years and nothing remotely like this shite I've been dealing with for months.
And yes I'm on sonosnet and all s2 compatible speakers.

Welp. My system randomly disconnected today. So odd.
Posted on 7/27/24 at 8:35 pm to Sherman Klump
That’s such shite. They’ve seriously fricked their system up. If it’s not too late I’d consider returning it.

A "roadmap" of getting the system working again. My God.
Just roll back to the old app and try again.
