So, I’ve had Cox Internet for 18 Years- Updated

And they decided to lay the rape on me. I don’t have a contract. They thought it was cool to drill me for $83.99 a month, after not paying more than $63.99 at its highest point.
They are offering $49.99 a month for the same plan for new customers. So I told old baw to give me that deal or I’m out.
I got the service cut off immediately when I didn’t agree to pay $70 a month they offered.
frick these people. I guess I will see what ATT has tomorrow.
UPDATE: I looked at AT&T and the best they had in my area was 50mbps for $50 a month. The Cox offer for $49.99 is for 150mbps. So, I got on their website and was able to set up a new account. I got the 150mbps for $49.99 a month for 12 months and a free $50 Visa gift card.

Cox, Comcast, all ISPs consistently rank as the worst in customer service year after year. They’re all pieces of shite.
I’ll say this though - I had a similar experience with Cox a few years ago. I was in their store on Florida returning a box and the lady behind the counter told me the same story about not being eligible for the new customer rate. My brother asked her what would happen if I canceled my service and immediately became a new customer? She said I’m not supposed to do that, but she could put it in the computer that way.
Got the new rate and was able to keep my old email and all of my old log in credentials.
In short, she was able to help me by going around the corporate “block” against giving me the new rate.

A friend recently canceled Comcast when they jacked up his Internet price and then put his wife on the phone to get the new customer rate.

They don't cave anymore. Instead of dropping the price, they will tell you for over an hour how bad your service will be with AT&T.
I too was super pissed that I've been a customer for decades and yet a new customer can pay less than half what they want me to pay.
Reminds me that I need to give them another call to battle them one last time.

if you do set up a cancellation with cox you can get like 40% of whatever your current bill is, for like another year and no contract required. it's through a different department that not even their usual phone support offers.
LINK
it states you need to receive and email to take advantage of this offer, but it's not true. call the number provided after you have schedule to terminate service on any date.. i called cox and told them to cancel my services like a week from the date i signed up for this 40% off. i called that number and they were able to get me the deal.
i may move away from cox when it is up.
again, no one from the retention/loyalty department can even answer questions about this. so don't let them discourage you.
let me know how it goes. that really should work out well for you. the person who helped me from that number was incredibly willing to help. they didn't even ask me if received the e-mail for it. i simply told them i had recently signed up for cox to cancel my services in the future and they worked from that. got me 40% off and this was two months ago or so.. all is well now.
*quick note, be sure not to straight up cancel your service that same day.. put in a schedule for a future date..* this is very important.
also, don't even waste your time with them trying to find you the best rate or to stay on.. and don't bother mentioning the 40% off with them. they won't find you a better deal and they also don't even have access to this deal. tell them you firm in your decision.
again, good-luck. hope this helps!!!

Cox doesn't care if you cancel. They rely on you signing back up with that sweet $49.99 deal they were unable to give you when you were a long time paying customer.

I pay $80 a month for 300mbps. I only get 80mbps. I’ve been on the phone with them three times. They reset the modem, it works for a couple days then goes back to 80mbps. Anyone care to help me out? About to switch to ATT.

Switch to ATT. I pay $120/month for Gigabit fiber, 4 DVRs and the middle teir Uverse cable package.
I see ~950mbps speeds on hardwired devices. I want to say internet only is like $60/month.

They don’t offer gigabyte service in my area. I’ve checked.

Are you testing bandwidth by plugging cat5 into the cox modem?

Yeah, baw. You think it’s my first rodeo?

Well I needed to say that before you need to tell Cox there is probably static coming from the coax to the house. That is normally the source. I would suspect it's the connection at the pole

I saw your post too late but that’s a great tip. I will try that when this new plan runs out in 12 months. Thanks!

Hi I am new to the forum but we finally made the switch from Cox High Speed Internet to AT&T Fiber 1 Gbps.
So far it has been great. Cheaper and no data cap.
