Less than a year ago we bought a top-of-the-line 65" Samsung LED Smart TV that:

- Constantly loses our Netflix account login or blocks the service altogether,

- Prompts you to reboot in the middle of live programming with forced software updates,

- Displays annoying pop-ups from advertisers, plus Samsung marketing messages like "your premium service is about to expire" in the middle of live programming,

- Has prominent buttons on the remote that bring up Samsung's useless "Smart Guide" with totally incorrect listings for our area,

- Has a flaky remote control and poor device connectivity that make us constantly reboot the cable box, Blu-Ray, and sound system to get them to communicate.

I hate this thing so much that I'd be willing to fork out the $$$ to replace it, but it seems like competitors are selling nothing but Smart TVs these days.

Does anyone have a Smart TV they actually like?

I have a 60" Vizio that I've never had a single problem with. Granted I've only had it about 5 months, but still, no problems.

don't forget to post on amazon and send a note to samsung.

yeah, their smart tv used to text a spanish station in english....upgraded to smart/stupid tv and it texts in spanish and no options......

UPDATE

I contacted samsung thru chat on their webpage.
on off for cc is different than picking which cc or text , but it ended up the same, no english translation on the spanish channel on any of the options, I tried them all.

last thing to try is to dbl check the old set to see if it still translates to english....cuz that service just may have changed. I'll have to go to a tv store and see if any of the sets can do what the old 26" could do.

I've had really good luck with the Samsung smart tv's. Have you updated the firmware on it? If not, i would start there.

They're like every other two-in-one appliance I've ever seen, overpriced and poorly engineered. Buy a Roku and forget about using the "smart" feature on the TV.

I have some similar issues with my Sony. Definitely going Vizio next time.

Most smart tvs blow. Cheap smart components make them crap. Better off buying a fire or waiting for the new apple

Everything you said sounds standard for Smart TVs, except for the ad interruptions. I have a Samsung Smart TV and have never experienced this.

The thing constantly nags us to update the firmware.

The last update and reboot was yesterday during prime time.

So yeah, we've updated the firmware.

Smart TVs are garbage. Find a regular TV and just get a Roku or Amazon Fire TV.

all updated

biggest complaint is the cc.
it was buried under accessability, but none of the options decoded/texted the spanish show into english like the 26" did.

I tried every option and nuthin.

but he's right, the announcements are annoying and right while you are watching....nothing critical either....big fuss over nothin [ just like an attention whore ]

Maybe look at getting one of the really good universal remotes and ditch that POS. I'd call Samsung and see if you can get a tech out or at least get it fixed. You'll have to send it in though I think. Where did you buy it? If it's less than a year, maybe you can get a swap or something.

Not that it will help you now, but there is no reason to buy a smart TV anymore when Roku, Apple, Amazon etc offer way better and faster devices.

Left my dad's house about 2 hours ago "fixing" the netflix and other login mumbo jumbo disappearance acts. You would think for the kind of $$$$ you spend on a "smart" tv it would stay smart

I bought a 55" Vizio in early 2011, right before they came out with their first Smart TV. It was the 2010 model. Got it dirt cheap at the time due to it being last year's model, $1000.00. It is still running like a champ. I have almost pulled the trigger on replacing it a few times, but have ended up deciding against it due to the fact that I don't need a smart TV. Everything that are in the smart TV's I have access to through either my sound system or the PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360 that are connected to it.

You have a bad one. I have a Samsung 55" smart and it rocks. But the firmware updates maybe every 2 or 3 months.
Write the number of the firmware it's trying to update to....maybe it's the same one over and over, it's just not loading for whatever reason.

Ads? Not here and have never seen one.

I would delete and extra apps you've got on there nd then update firmware. May have a storage space issue?

Mine has a Smart Hub. Works fine

AUSTINTIGERDAD

go to the samsung site, and wait. [ I did this yesterday ]

a rep will pop a chat box within a minute or so

then pose a question, they may have a solution for you.
perhaps uncheck something then reboot etc

I hate smart TVs. I don't own one, but I've played with a few. A chromecast or the like can do everything a smart TV can, except easier and better.

Smart TVs are going the way that 3d TVs went. They are putting the crap on every TV and basically forcing you to buy it.
