So I’m not exactly sure what I’m asking about but I’ll do my best. I’m looking for some sort of smart charger or smart plug of sorts. I want to plug-in a charger cable for a flashlight, but I do not want/need it charging 24/7.

Maybe it can be some sort of trickle charge or the charger is only active for short periods of time throughout the day? Of course it would have to be universal.

Does a universal charger cable/docking station/plug/etc exist that does not constantly charge small things like a flashlight, watch, etc…?

Thoughts?

Why not?

So generally, for electronics with lithium batteries, it's not the charger that's in charge of charging. Chargers just supply a voltage, and the device that is charging has all of the circuitry to manage its own battery. It takes what it needs from the charger. If it wants high amperage, it takes it. If it wants a trickle to top off, it takes a trickle. Some devices are smarter about this than others.

If you insist on managing the charge cycles, I would just get a separate smart plug that you can schedule to turn on and off and plug the regular charger into that.

Plug whatever you're charging into an inexpensive outlet timer

Korkstand's answer is pretty good. If you do want a timed outlet/usb charger, try this maybe?

Going off of what Kork said, I think the question is, what type of battery is in the flashlight?

Everyone’s answer made sense and the rechargeable battery in the flashlight is lithium. I’ll trust that I can leave it plugged in and it won’t ruin anything.

Add-on question though. Is heat ever a concern or would it depend on the individual item?

Maybe if you have it charging in a shed or in the oven
