I recently purchased a 65 inch Samsung Q8 Series QLED television but returned it and replaced it with a 70 inch Samsung Crystal 7 Series for half the cost. I could not get the skin tone tint right (even with Samsung tech support) on the QLED and didn't see a lot of difference in the overall picture quality. Has anyone else had this experience? Maybe I got a dud but I am happy with the 70 inch Crystal UHD at half the cost.

You can't see the difference between 120Hz and 60Hz?

Or 900nits brightness to 300?

Or full array local dimming to none and edge lit?

Or wide color gamut to none?

Okay.

That’s why you got it for half price.

Get a Sony and smile.

If you are happy with your TV then that's all the matters.

But in general the crystal line is samsung's budget lineup and won't produce as good as a picture as the QLED series.

This is likely because you have never had a REALLY good TV, and are going with what you are used to seeing as a good picture.

But all that really matters is that you are happy with your purchase.

I bought a Q90T for my Living Room, and a Series 7 UHD for outside.

Very noticeable difference, but I didn't need the same quality outside.

No doubt the QLED has superior technology. The main problem I had was getting the skin tone tint right. Even with the green tint setting at 100%, the faces were still red. I couldn't accept that from a $1400 tv set.

I appreciate what you're saying, but not being able to get the facial tint right and seeing red faces is a deal breaker. Even the Samsung tech couldn't get it right. Like I said, maybe I got a dud.

Should've gone Sony X90J in that price/size range.

I had the chance today to view both the QLED and the Crystal UHD side by side at Sam's. I used a remote to give the picture the identical settings. The QLED did have a somewhat better picture but not enough for me to pay double and get 4 HDMI ports instead of 2. I'm satisfied with my Crystal UHD.

I used to calibrate three tube video projectors. Was a certified ISF calibrator and worked training others at ISF events and for Runco. It always amazed me that friends and family hated the results whenever I would offer to calibrate their plasma TV or digital projector. I mean, I could dial it in and get it perfect, or as close to perfect as possible, but they turn right around and crank up the color, the brightness, the contrast, the gamma, the sharpness to these reddish, cartoonist colors and artificial edge enhancement that looks like shite. It's like, they are so used to watching a crappy image that a really good image to them means brighter and more colorful shite. Natural looking is “too dim" or “not enough color".

As long as you're happy my guy. It's your eyes and content afterall. I just know that those cheap Samsung's are some of the worst TVs out there.

How are they the worst? Don't last as long? Just curious. As I said, the picture quality between the two is marginal.

All the TV manufacturers cripple or remove features from their less expensive sets. Some are worse about it than others.

You probably just haven't seen the differences. What you see in a store doesn't truly show the differences in the TVs as they are all set to max brightness generally. The main differences you would see are things like blooming and motion.

All LCD tvs (currently for sale) are susceptible to blooming it's just how much. Ones like you have that are edgelit or a single backlight will light up the whole screen to a single brightness level.

Watch a movie that is ultrawide screen on your tv with subtitles on. You will see a halo effect around the text.

The more expensive LCD TV's have full array LED backlights. The more backlights they have, the smaller the area of backlight luminance so the halos around the white text would be smaller.

The other big issue would be motion. Watch a football, soccer, or tennis match on your tv. You'll see the ball is kind of fuzzy when it moves across the screen. TVs with better motion handling will show less fuzziness with the ball.

All this above may not bother some people, like yourself. For me these are really distracting.
