Going to cut the cord and wondering if the board has thoughts/insights into the plusses and minuses of each option.

They seem to all be roughly the same to me (give or take the ecosystem and some apps/features). Any experience, good or bad would be most welcome. TIA

Edit. Have MacBooks, but Android phones.

Roku then. Plenty of content. Well established.

If you had iPhones, I'd say appleTV which is what I have. It's great for mirroring my phone or macbook and has all the necessary apps.

I love Chromecast...only issue for me is no Amazon Prime support yet. If you need that, Roku is also really good. No experience with Apple.

i have roku 3 and apple tv, both are great, roku 3 is a little bit better. only go for apple tv if you need the apple ecosystem. no experience with chrome cast or fire tv, chrome cast doesn't appeal to me at all but i wouldn't mind trying out a fire tv.

Have a few Roku's and Apple TVs, and sold off a Chromecast. Don't have a Fire, so can't comment on that one.

Out of my 3, no matter if you are an Android or iPhone person, Roku wins easily. Apple is a middle of the road if you have everything Apple already. Some AppleTV content can be blocked by providers that isn't on Roku. For example, if you have Charter cable, you can use HBOGo on Roku, but it is unavailable on AppleTV unless you play through another device like an iPad or iPhone. Didn't enjoy the chromecast as much as the other two.

Yeah.... don't bother Google where they have actual comparisons. Come here for your in-depth analysis!

I had a chromecast and replaced it with a fire TV. I like the fire a lot.

ell, is this like Allcast for android? I have and HTC one and when I look at pictures or anything on my phone, I can click the allcast icon and it come up on my Samsung TV instantly.

Not trying to make this an apple/android thing. I have always been curious. I have owned iPhones before, just never owned any MAC equipment

That's exactly what it is. It's called "Airplay" and there's an icon on your macbook or iphone where you can put up photos, youtube videos, movies, watchespn, etc. Before the watchespn app came to the appletv, I used it a ton.

ETA: You can even "mirror" your device so that you see the whole screen up on your TV.

Have all except appletv. Use chromecast to stream content from phone to TV. Use firetv to stream Netflix and Amazon prime. Use roku in bedroom for sling player and watchespn. Chromecast is getting more and more support but you still need a device to stream to it. Firetv or roku is great for stand alone streaming.

I have three Rokus but would buy the Firetv just for the voice search feature. In all other respects it and the newer Rokus are comparable.

How is the mirroring on Chromecast? What do you stream on your phone?

If you use your phone for the rokus or a chromecast you can just use the speech-to-text on your android.

My youngest son can't spell too many words yet but he knows how to get Weird Al videos to play on the tv.

It's great for native apps and getting better for non-native.

I do that sometimes with YouTube. My tv has the watchespn, Netflix, and hbogo apps preloaded so I won't need to mirror for baseball. It will show the whole screen as well. Pretty cool.

I love my apple tv. All the apps are on the device. (and i use all apple products)

Bought my parents a chromecast, set it up for them and all. I didn't like how everything is really on your phone rather than the actual chromecast. I didn't know exactly how the thing worked before I got it.

I have a Chromecast and Apple TV and use Chromecast exclusively. I have an android phone, macbook pro, ipad, wife has a moto x. Chromecast for $35 has plenty of apps that work with it and it's easy to cast anything to it. I can mirror my phone and laptop to it also. Apple TV cost too much $. I've also heard very good things about the Roku and Fire TV

I have chromecast and roku and prefer the roku. The streaming stick is only 50.
