I’m thinking about buying a roku tv to mount outside under my patio. I was told I can download the charter/spectrum app to the tv and I can watch the tv just like one in my house. Anyone have experience with these televisions? Is this accurate?

I don't have a Roku TV, but have a Roku stick. When I used to have Spectrum, I had the spectrum app on there. It was really good, faster than the spectrum cable box. Only downfall is that you don't have a number pad to enter channels. Other than that, it was really good.

With the roku tv, you might be able to use the number pad on there, IDK.

Any suggestions on a mounting bracket? I appreciate the response.

I have a TCL Roku built-in TV on patio.
I use Wi-Fi to watch You Tube TV, Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ on it.

roku tv is the best device on the market today. tv turns on in seconds and the roku os is simple and elegant. i hate to say it but its like apple iphone; sure you're locked into their proprietary UX but they do such a great job you don't mind.

by comparison my fireTV is a living, breathing nightmare. all fire sticks are getting replaced by rokus. first i dumped my chromecasts..then i dump my slow-as-molasses firesticks..

kodi was 'cute' for about 10 minutes but i came to my senses early one.

Agreed.

I love Roku’s interface and ease of use. It’s something even my parents can easily navigate.

I love how easy it is to control the TV from an app on my phone too. I can even turn the audio down if it gets to loud in a room.

Kodi was great, but there were tons of issues with buffering, live shows/sports, and clunky UI.

Free is not always the better option. We have 3 roku devices and a tv and couldn't be happier.

curating my own movie and tv collection in Plex and viewing it via Roku is the best thing I've ever done.

Yes and yes it works with Spectrum. The only slight warning I will give is my patio tv with Roku built in sometimes loses connectivity to WiFi after I turn it off. When I turn it on again I sometimes have to reconnect. Small inconvenience that takes 10 seconds. The BestBuy dude warned that the Ultra external box has better abilities to connect than the TVs with built in. I remain skeptical.

You don't have stuttering problems with Plex and Roku? After doing some research it seemed like Roku wanted things encoded a very specific way. Plex works fine for me on fire TV which is the only reason I'm not using my Roku ultra exclusively.

It has been a while since I tested so maybe Roku fixed that issue now...

Never. I'm using the TCL series 6 with Roku built in.

I'm not sure what to make of that question since my Plex server handles many different types of codecs and play some direct (no conversion). I would think the stuttering would have to be a combination of server limitations and the Roku device itself. Some of my family members have trouble with x.265 streams so I tend to get x.264 for non 4K movies and TVb they stream remotely. I think mobile devices and apple in particular have trouble with x.265.

Are you hard wired? All my TVs that I push Plex to locally are on Ethernet because I don't trust 4K and especially 4K REMUX to play flawlessly via WiFi.

if I were you I would do some experimenting with you Plex server settings and note what streams seem to have hiccups on Roku and see if you can isolate it to a particular encoding or something. Also watch your CPU usage and bandwidth on your server when playing. Is this happening for every video on Roku?

It was but after doing some testing today everything seems to be working fine so it must have been magically resolved by an update or something.

Thanks

awesome! if i could ask; what roku device are you using?

eta and if you haven't already; take a look at your plex server settings and tweak those. you can dramatically improve the delivery of video just by making a few small changes.

I will have a look at the settings to see what I can do to optimize things a bit.
