Has anyone else here done this? I know some that have done this and am just wondering the benefits of doing so.

I did it and email them pictures and little messages all the time. I’m hoping when I give them their accounts they’ll appreciate the pictures, etc.

Interesting. Never thought about that.

Luckily I do have a unique last name, so I don't have to worry about that.

We did this too! Figured we will give them the password when they are 18!

Downside is Google has data on them from before they were born......guess it probably won't matter at that point.

Yes, they all had Gmail accounts with their names by the time they were 8.

Oldest got first name/last name with no space but the younger twins were already used so there's are last name/first name with no spaces.

You mean Lemongello and Orangello were already taken? Shocked! Shocked I tell ya!

I've had a 1st name based Yahoo email account/email since 1999...that's 20 years now, time flies! The 1st one I set up was Nov.99 and just the name was taken, added 00 for the y2k. A decade later was messing around and the without 00 apparently had been abandoned and was available so I now have ___00 @yahoo and ___ @yahoo

Sooo, check back in a few years on FirstLast @gmail might get lucky.

I did this when my kids were relatively young. firstnamelastname@gmail

I use that email for their iTunes etc., and also email them pictures.

They don't know the accounts exist - 9 & 7 year olds

I purchased my daughter's first name as a domain when she was born in 2001. Her name isn't Emily but I'll use that to show that her email is like emily@emily.com. Been sending her all kinds of email, pics and video to that address. Now she uses it the domain for her own line of bath products.
