Recommend me a vpn service

Headed on a cruise in a couple of weeks and need a vpn to access stuff like hulu, espn, Netflix, hbomax, etc. Since it seems a lot of them block use outside the US. Why, I'm not sure since you pay for them.
Any advice?

The VPNs don't block themselves. The entertainment providers block well known end points for VPN services (I have 12? US endpoints to choose from with my provider, and the providers quickly learn out what those outbound IP addresses are, and can block them.)
The other issue is that some providers block your access if you have a VPN active at all, regardless of IP source or destination.
Especially for something short like a cruise, I'd just download 20+ hours of content across multiple services BEFORE you leave. That's what I normally do when going overseas, and I never watch everything I downloaded. I can't imagine streaming on a boat with thousands of other people trying to watch the latest Housewives episode on Bravo, but I'm sure there will be plenty of cruise bros that can weigh in.

Host your own vpn on your home network, fire it up to make your device think it’s in your house, watch what you please.

He is going to have zero idea how to do that. Tell him how to change the default SSH port, see what happens. I'm not insulting OP, but nobody is teaching anyone how to register a free DNS account, punch ports through the firewall, etc. on TD. It's easy to install your own TLS certificate to authenticate, baw!

I have considered that and it is an option. But I read that you have to be logged into say HBO Max to watch downloaded content, and I'm guessing if they don't let me log in and watch online content, will my login even work for me to watch offline?

I'm not opposed to something like this, would like to connect to a home computer if I could to monitor my camera's, but I really don't want to pay much for something I might not use much. I work from home.
With that said, recommendations of low cost or free?

Check out Tailscale. It's easy to configure and free.

Why not just stay home and watch TV?

Your router has openVPN service on it. Read your user manual on setting up a dynamic DNS connection then setting up openVPN.
I know on Android their is an openvpn app, someone else comment on apple.
With openVPN when away from the house, your location will show as your home if you are connected to it.

I understand the OTs Carnival cruise line walmart reference, but there are other lines that provide a nice resort experience.
I will say though that those cruise lines are starting to cost more and cut back more too.

Use Brave browser default VPN. It also has built in TOR.

Someone didn't even read the topic.
At any rate, look up Tailscale OP. You don't even have to mess with the router to use it. You just need to expose your LAN from the Tailscale server on your desktop. It's really simple and they walk you through it pretty well.
