I know I need a 4K TV with a 120 F/S refresh rate, but is it also necessary to have one that's 2.1 HDMI compliant to fully utilize the next gen gaming systems? I'm having a difficult time finding a TV in the size I want (43" and under) that meets both specs.

I've noticed that the TCL TV's have "clear motion" when talking about refresh rate. I'm a little confused by that.

Any and all input is appreciated.

You should be. That's the goal of the manufacturers. A lot of TVs that are only 60hz (or your cheap Black Friday ones) usually include such language to trick consumers into thinking they're buying a tv with a nice feature.

A lot of stores don't include refresh rates on their sites, and instead use the gimmick marketing lingo provided by the manufacturers. Your best bet is to do a web search of the model number and see if you can find an entire spec sheet.

I bit the bullet and got the 48” LG CX and let me just say that I don’t regret it one bit. Sure it’s a little bigger than I would have liked but with the right battle station setup, it’s perfect.

This TV is amazing. Running games at 4K 120hz is a game changer.

How does that compare to my 2007 plasma which ran at 600hz?

Marketing, plasmas were actually still 60 frames per second.

If you re-read again at a 2nd grade level, you’ll notice the word “ran” is being used in past tense.

Much more than marketing. Because the screen was being refreshed at 480Hz or 600Hz, the motion clarity on plasma was superior and is superior to LCD. The pixels could turn off much faster.

LCDs can do actual 120/240 frames per second, plasmas were capped at 60. Pixels could turn off in as low as 2ms yes, but still capped at 60 frames. 600Hz comes from pixel flashing 10 times per second at 60 frames = "600Hz".

The act of flashing pixels on plasmas is moreso for color reproduction than motion or clarity. If your color/brightness were way off you could actually see it happening if you got close to the TV.

This thread is the perfect epitome of Tigerdroppings. Good, healthy mix of just the most worthless insults and aggressive escalation mixed in with legitimate high level knowledge drops.

This is why I TD.

Yes, if your TV don't have a 2.1 port that PS5 or Xbox is as good as the last version.

No. Not yet. In the future you will need it but right now there isn't enough content available to utilize it.

Think of it as USB 2.0 vs 3.0. Same thing. Higher data transfer.

Samsung definitely makes them.
