Maybe it's a 2012 or maybe it was just an option in 2013.

Regardless, if we were to swap machines I'd be taking a huge drop in performance

Unreal the speed difference.

Not to be a buzzkill, but you don't have USB3 to make use of that speed.

What about HDMI?

Is your wifi protocol "G" or "N"?

802.11g - 54 Mbps
802.11n - 600 Mbps (theoretical)
802.11ac - 1.3 Gbps

This thread is getting way off topic. Look, the guy was only saying how much faster an SSD is. That's it.

Sure you know what you're talking about there?

As long as you're careful with the LCD screen and pop it off correctly, it's quite simple from there. Just make sure you have the right tools.

Can you tell me exactly what tools you used? I have one laying around the office that someone "broke" about a year ago and I'd love to get it up and running again.

Also a link to the video would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, so you mean laptop technology has changed in the last 9 years?

The fact that a simple change in hardware to a newer technology can make a dramatic difference in old machines is all the OP was pointing out.

Why have all that speed if you can't do anything with it?

???

I'm talking about overall speed of the system. What's USB3 got to do with it?

Why not just get a flux capacitor out of an 85 DeLorean

Depends on if it comes with Mr. Fusion or if he needs to find some plutonium?

What do you use your laptop for?

If you do anything other than play Solitaire, then you probably need to interface with the real world.

7 year old I/O technology is pretty slow.

Dude, I thought you were joking at first but you are dead fricking serious... Everything has been replaced but the CPU to include 32 GB of RAM and SSD. You have gone full fricking retard!

Where does the OP mention replacing anything other than the HDD with an SSD?

Solid State Drives (SSD) are not motherboards.

Did he also replace his 7 year old power supply?

No. He breathed new life into a 17 inch MacBook that they don't make anymore.
Don't be so obtuse.

What does having updated I/O boards have to do with ssd's outperforming hdd's?

The speed of the SSD has absolutely nothing to do with the speed of USB 3.0. Also if you want to talk speed. Thunderbolt 2 takes a massive shite on USB 3.0.

That dude is highly confused about something but none of us, or even him for that matter, know what he's talking about.
