PSA from a 4yo if you drop and break a hue color bulb don't throw it away

i dropped one and it busted the entire bulb casing. looked something like this:
disgusted i tossed it in the trash and my 4yo asked why i didn't just put it in a light that already has a cover like this one:
sure enough, took it out and removed the rest of the broken glass and the damn thing works even better because the LEDs dont have to permeate both the lightbulb frosted globe and the light fixture. works perfect.
summary almost tossed a 'broken' $50 color lightbulb and found it actually works just as good broken thanks to my 4yo.

You can also desolder the leds and other parts or re-use the board to make custom home automation projects.

caveat emptor.
Obama did not make you pay $50 for that tech/bulb.

Maybe when he purchased it 4 years ago, but I remember seeing LED bulbs go for a dollar on Black Friday last year.

No, they are $50 bulbs, but CAD would have got them for around $10 or less.
Speaking of, I have 2 $50 bulbs that have been out. Need to contact support and see how they are.

They swapped 2 gen2s that were acting up for 2 gen3s. You'll just need to fish out a receipt showing they're 2 years old or newer.
I have a feeling you will be able to produce a few receipts in that time period.

I sent them in and they "tested" them and sent me 2 new ones.
PS the one I dropped was a gen2.

Shipping me 2 replacements. No notice of having to return them though. Guess I'll see when I get the package.

I broke one and got a cheap Philips $6 led bulb and took the globe off of that one and glued it to the hue bulb and it works as good as new.
