Possible to add WAP to Netgear Modem/Router?

I just moved into a slightly larger but more spread out house, and my modem/router combo does not reach a couple bedrooms. The modem is only about 1 year old, so I'd like to keep it and just add a wired WAP (have good attic access) to one side of the house to increase coverage, rather than starting over with a mesh network.
Is this possible, and if so what do I need to get? I want the WAP to extend range without creating a separate network, i.e. I wont switch networks when walking around the house. I have tried the plug-in range extenders at work and had very little success, and it created a separate network, so trying to avoid that if at all possible.

That's the preferred method to increase wifi coverage. You'll just need the SSID (Wifi network name) and same security WPA2 password or whatever security on the wifi you use that matches your netgear . Should be pretty straight forward.

Plug into whatever new device you buy and set it to AP mode...Most are that easy

Thank y’all. I don’t think my router has a Power over Ethernet (POE) port... Is it as simple as putting an inline POE injector between my router and the WAP?
Could always add an outlet in attic, but for $20 I’d rather buy an injector if it’s that easy.

what you are doing is how I have my house setup.
I have an asus router than I attached a Ubiquiti AP. The AP is attached via a POE injector. The AP is setup with the same SSID and passphrase so devices can switch between either one.

Be best if you drop the wire and new AP into one of the bedrooms. Routers don't always handle heat that well.

Ubiquiti APs are the best (including all their other networking gear). Get an AC-Lite or AC-Pro if you want to spend a little more.
