Hate to ask, but are you having issues streaming or anything causing you to look into the speeds that you’re getting or are you just causing yourself anxiety because you’re not getting what you’re paying for? 120mbps should be plenty to do just about anything with several devices all connected at the same time. Not ideal if you’re paying for more but may be giving yourself a headache for no reason. Could easily be network congestion with them over subscribing the network and completely out of your control.

I get what you are saying, but yes websites load noticeably slower. Specifically any images. However, my main concern is that I download a good amount of large files…a lot of them. Mostly assets such as large high res images, video files, 3D models, textures, etc for graphic design as that is what I do for a living. And those download speeds are much lower than what I previously got. Lower than the plan I was paying for. I don’t care about the number on the speed test but it is extremely aggravating having my actual speeds fall after a free “upgrade.”

I am also now realizing I never said the part about my upload speeds are actually what they should be. But yea, I like to get what I pay for.

Does service seem to improve at night?

Are you running a VPN? VPNs can slow down your connection.

May try running a new coax cable directly from the outside box to the modem. See if that improves things. Otherwise, I’m of the mindset that it’s just an overloaded node.

No, does improve at any time, I got up to piss at like 4am one night, same thing.

No VPN.

Can’t access outside box (live in a townhouse.)

I guess if they end up not being able to improve it my only option until Vexus is available is Verizon home 5G. No idea how good that is, but I do already have Verizon as my mobile carrier at least. Guess I’ll find out this evening when the tech comes again.

Yeah, it sounds like they need to replace some equipment outside or something.

Maybe they can switch out their modem with another as well just to check.

I had a similar problem when Xfinity increased my speed to 330 at no extra charge.
Turned out, my next down the line router AND two switches were rated for only 100 mps.

Replaced all with gigabite router and two gigabite swithches- everything worked according to parents modem speed now

Well, tech came. Thankfully he was an actual Optimum in-house tech and not a contractor and this dude knew his shite for sure. He pretty much immediately knew what was probably wrong. He ran all new coax inside and outside. Ran signal tests at every single termination. Unfortunately the one single run of cable where the problem is, is between the box outside and my attic. That cable runs through my neighbors attic, so he could not go in to check it. He said "Let me guess, your neighbors just recently moved in?" And yea, they moved in about a month ago and he said "Yea...they fricked with something up there." So i just gotta let the landlord knowto run my own drop from the outside box into my attic. The tech gave me his personal number and even said he would provide the cable and come on his free time in his own car to terminate it and hook it up. Guy was awesome. At least now I know the problem. Thanks for everyone trying to help me.

Glad he was able to figure it out. Honestly, that was my thought as well.

Now that you're on the right track, let me share another weird issue I've experienced in the past. (May help someone in the future.)

I once had a PC that would make a 100 Mb connection, despite being capable of 1 Gb. Everything seemed normal. I opened the jack running to the wall and discovered that one of the terminations was not fully seated in the plug. I ended up cutting and making a new termination point with a new plug.

Just future food for thought.

Years ago when i upgraded from 50 meg to 200 and wasn't getting even close, I had a tech come out. He said there was water in the coax. He did his thing and fixed it and it worked, so I was good.

The guy who came yesterday asked me to come outside to show me that the line that was full of water years ago was still there. Just a lazy arse person who left it there. He also had put a splitter between my unit and my neighbor instead of my own drop, so he ran me my own as it should be. There were no grommets on the outside terminal which is why water was in everyone's terminations, but they don't notice because they apparently don't actually use them for anything demanding and don't notice or care.

This dude legit was very good at his job and showed me every single point of failure with proof and explained why. Laziness and dumbassery is why my stuff isn't working as it should be. I told him what the last tech did, and with zero description of the guy he said "Yea, that was Demetrius." I wanted to ask if he was a sorcerer because that was indeed the guys name lol. He even knew who did the "work" years ago on the water filled coax.

That’s because they use a ticketing system for every service call. Helps keep track of issues and callbacks and reference to who did the work on the previous calls.
