No that was all proven false. You can buy from Verizon outright then just put your carrier's SIM in. Also Google handles all updates. See below from Ars Technica.

That is written like they are saying they wont stand in the way, but they are still going to manage it. As in "hey lets re install all of our apps the person deleted." or "hey it used to take months before we released the update after google, now lets just take a few weeks, the consumer will think we are so fast."

After calling this morning and speaking with both Google and synchrony bank, The best they could do is an apology and suggest I get on waiting list to reorder. They instantly doubled my credit limit without question after I talked to the financing department and had no answer for such a low initial limit. Said it was happening to a lot of people and they were trying to alleviate the issue moving forward. Doesn't help me get my Pixel any sooner if at all now. frick it.

Feel bad for you man. I'm sure you're seeing red right now.

Yeah i feel bad too. Try and look at Best Buy or Verizon and see how long that may be. To be honest you could probably buy outright from Verizon tomorrow or Friday at an actual store. You would have to pay full price though.

I'm not a Verizon customer plus Verizon devices are bootloader locked. No thanks. I'll wait.

Preordered mine from Verizon and received it today. Got it activated about 2 hours ago. Liking it so far.

cool. You should post some pics of it.

At work now. I'll see if I have time to get a co-worker to take some pics. Bought a tempered glass screen protector and just realized that the guy that put it on didn't get everything off the screen before putting it on. I'm going to be pissed if I have to buy a new one. Going to go back tomorrow and show them, hopefully they replace it

Glass protectors are easy to install - because it is all glass (no bubbles).
On Amazon, you can buy a 3 pack for less than $10.

Good to know. I'll go that route if they don't replace it. I just used to always mess up the old ones, so I always bought the glass one through Verizon and let them put it on. But it looks like 2 pieces of lent, and both are on the keyboard so used them while typing. Driving me crazy

Still in Processing for me. Probably missed the window to get it before the weekend.

Processing for me as well.
On another note ... since I am purchasing phone directly from Google, will I need to obtain SIM card from my wireless provider (Sprint)? Or will it come with one (don't recall them asking for my provider)?
If I need to get one on my own, is it as easy as walking into a Sprint store and obtaining (purchasing?) one?
Obviously I have never done this before (in terms of buying phone outside of Sprint) ...

If it's not the same size then you'll need to go to the Sprint store and have them give you a new one. It was free for me at AT&T and it took all of 10 minutes for them to do it.

What's your current phone?
Nevermind, saw where you posted you have a 6 Plus. Same size sim card, so you can just swap it over. That's all there is to it. I would make sure to turn off iMessage pretty soon, if you haven't already.
