I tried a pixel. It felt like an iPhone to me.

quote:What's so hard to understand? I only want Pixel phones. My current one is working fine, but if something should go wrong, it's not just a snap of the fingers to get a new Pixel (i.e. at least around here I can't just walk into a store and get it same day, you have to order it, and that ain't always quick). I know at some point I will have to move on to a more recent one, but the 7 will be "on the run" for at least the next year (as someone pointed out, right around the time when the 5 will likely lose its update coverage). So I buy it now.
Why would anyone buy a brand new phone as a "backup"? That's beyond stupid. If you want a backup, buy last year's model at what will be a cheaper cost, and even then it's still dumb. Whats the purpose of the backup? If the 5 breaks, then buy the "backup"
I did exactly this with my 5 replacing my 2 and it worked just fine. The only real "risk" is that somehow the 5 lasts through the 8, and I just jump straight to that. In which case - worst case - I own an unboxed 7 that will clearly still have high resale value.
Instead of all the judging, why can't you geniuses answer my question about the watch pairing with the 5?

quote:Yes, it does. Again, I'm not talking about the "dumb" data dump that exports 90% of your settings (WAY better than in the old days). But getting all my apps over, signed in, correctly dialed in + all the mini settings for all other aspects of the phone takes a long time and is a pain in the arse.
t's quite simple. It doesn't take anything close to hours to migrate.
Unrelated, another thing I don't like about any of these phones these days is this silly 19.5:9 or 20:9 aspect ratio. It's like the goal is to eventually have the screen be the shape of a Slim Jim or something. They're way too tall and narrow.

I thought of 2 more areas in which migration is a big pain in the arse:
If you use the locked folder function in Google Photos, you might have found out the hard way (like I did), that if you want to transfer items out of the folder (e.g. like you will have to do when you get a new phone), they do not provide a simple utility to direct the photos to a target folder/album that can then be easily transferred to the locked folder on the new phone. INSTEAD, transferring them out puts them back in your Gallery...AND on their original timeline. That is to say - if you have hundreds of photos in there, you have to go back through YEARS of timeline and individually select them for inclusion in the new locked folder. Here's Google confirming my claims on this. Ugh.
I also have a number of dummy gmail accounts that feed into my primary account. For each of the dummies, I have 2-factor. So that means during any migration, I have to go into Authenticator and re-setup 2-factor for each dummy on the new phone. (And this likely applies to another 3rd party authentication app I have to use for professional purposes as well).

My P7Pro and Pixel Watch on the FedEx truck for delivery today

From what I can tell, Google is making a mess out of the watch.
It removed a bunch of features from Fitbit Sense 2, ticking off fans and reviewers.
Then on the Pixel Watch, it didn't include that many Fitbit features.

Really liking everything so far. Pixel 7 Pro is really polished. Benefit of it being a 2nd generation tensor product. Battery life and thermals are way better.
The Pixel watch is also really impressive. It doesn't have the WearOS jank that the Samsung Watch 5 Pro and others have. With that said it's not as polished as WatchOS or my Apple Watch Series 7 or the Ultra I tried. However for a first generation product Google really nailed it with UI and interface. Excited for the product now and as it gets more refined.

how small does the watch look on your wrist..I passed based on just seeing one in store
Posted on 10/14/22 at 8:36 am to GrammarKnotsi
It's definitely way smaller than I'm used to. I've been using a 45 mm Apple Watch since the series 4. Even tried out the Apple watch ultra and it felt fine.
I am a smaller person and a lot people my size would probably never consider something like the Ultra but I didn't mind the size.
With that said after a few days of wearing the pixel watch it doesn't look so small and dainty anymore. It is for sure an adjustment and if you were a larger person I could see it looking odd on a very large wrist. I'd say get it and wear it for a week. Then reassess how you feel about the size when it feels normal to wear.

I'm pretty averaged sized and have always had the larger Samsung watches so that is all I compared it to..Ill ask about returns maybe and try it for a week

Resurrecting this thread. I'm on an iphone 12 pro max and combined with an apple watch ultra.
I've recently been looking at the google pixel 7 pro but the pixel watch just looks nice but needs another series or 3 to truly look like a watch competitor.
Curious how the Pixel 7 pro and the Google Pixel watch have fared over the last 2+ months now to those that have it? Any pros / cons?

take it for what you will, but I have owned every pixel phone and most samsung watches since they have been available..
my chirstmas to myself this year will be a 14max and an Apple watch..
I hate, hate the apple system, but its so discouraging the bugs Google makes us find for them

Yikes. Yea the apple phone is "ok". It's blah but might be exciting for you as it's a change. Like everything, grass always seems greener on the other side.
The apple watch ultra is the only thing keeping me in the apple ecosystem. Well that and fam has a ton of apple devices.
I just like playing in both worlds. I'm literally watching Fox News via youtube tv on my google home max right next to my pc. About to go plug in my nVidia Shield TV Pro later just for giggles this weekend.

Deep bump on this thread...
So, still going with my Pixel 5 - i.e. still haven't even unboxed my 7 pro that this thread was about.
Doesn't seem like I missed much.
I just pre-ordered the 8 pro and am getting the free watch 2 with it.
Current question: what's the best marketplace for me to get full re-sale value of my unboxed 7 pro?

I would have just traded it at Best Buy and avoided the hassle. They're offering free watch and $550 for P7 Pro 128gb. You might do slightly better than that on eBay or Swappa, but then you have to pay their fees and handle shipping.
