And by leaker Jon Prosser, claims that the Pixel 6 will hit stores on October 28 after pre-orders get underway October 19. This seems to be supported by code spotted within the Google Camera app that shows the Pixel 6 Pro will need to update the app on October 27. It makes sense that Google would push out a camera app update just before the phone hits store shelves.

Really looking forward to this now, pretty sure I'm getting it soon as it becomes available for pre order.

I really want the 6 Pro, but I'm not spending $1200 on a phone.

I'll probably get the 6, I just hope there are some decent deals through the carriers (I'm on T-Mobile).

Maybe it's just me, but I don't remember people getting this excited about cameras in the past. Which honestly, is what it seems like the biggest innovations in smartphones have been. Yeah, I know there's bigger screens, bigger batteries, faster chips and all that, but it just seems like people are throwing around a lot of money for minor real world differences.

Think the fact that they have their own processor in it makes me want it more. I have a S21 Ultra already so already have a great camera, I'm more curious how much better ai and machine learning can be like they claim.

I think it's definitely moving in the right direction. Eventually, your phone will take the place of a lot of gadgets in your home. I don't know how many more generations it will take to get there, but I can definitely see it supplanting things like game consoles, stream boxes, etc.

I realize this contradicts my earlier curmudgeonly approach.

Maybe one day.

As ALWAYS with the Pixel, wait until Black Friday to pick it up for a pretty significant price drop.

Yeah, never buy Day 1 pixels. A) There's always something wrong with the first batch, and B) They're always on sale on Black Friday.

It's a 5 year old Samsung GN1 camera on both new Pixel's. Nothing really to get excited over, they're great cameras and software can help get even more out of them but they're about maxed these days.

Samsung screen, Samsung camera, Samsung SoC, Samsung RAM, Samsung storage.

If you don't like Sammy, I wouldn't get the Samsung-Google Pixel 6.

The Google Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 will indeed use the 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor for their main cameras.

So I'm not exactly sure if what you said is completely accurate:

Oh okay, I was reading the 5 year old hardware article earlier but only skimmed it. Pixel 6: Google's flagship challenges iPhone 13 with 5-year-old camera hardware

Just knew the new Samsung's use the GN2 sensor. GN1 was for the non-Ultra models last year.

Nothing wrong with the GN1 it still scores near the top. Idk why anyone would be excited about Samsung's #4 camera sensor now, behind the GN2 for S22, HP1 and HP2 in Ultra's though.

But I guess that reflects in the price. More similar to an a series.

At least it's Samsung and not LG or HTC making a mid range model. Woof. Smart move by Google to go with a 90% Samsung phone.

Google has always used inferior camera sensors and refined with software, so even this sensor is a major upgrade for Google. should be interesting to see what they can do with it with their software behind it.

I wouldn't say it's inferior, just not one of the top Samsung sensors in the sense that they don't use them in the Ultra's in the S20 or S21 or upcoming S22.
