Torrential downpour here in Houston and forgot my phone was on my lap getting out of my car (also drenched). 15 minutes later I can’t find my phone so I go back outside and lo’ and behold it’s laying face up in the rain.

Took off the cover, put it in some rice for an hour and it works as normal.

I’d do a commercial for free for OtterBox

Yep every smart phone I have had has been surrounded by an Otterbox. I was up on a ladder taking a picture and dropped my phone on concrete. I was about 8 feet high. I was positive it was broken. Nope just a few scratches.

OtterBoxes are great. I won’t switch from them ever again. I tried LifeProof one time. I dropped my phone and it fell into a storm drain. I eventually fished it out, but the waterproof seal didn’t hold and the phone was dead. OtterBoxes on the other hand have saved my phones countless times

The big ones are great if you aren't trying to carry it in your pocket. Decent phones are "waterproof" nowadays, so I always get smooth plastic ones. Been rocking UAG cases on everything for years, and I drop my phones all of the time

Someone left our dry bag open during that torrential rain Saturday. Gf's sister's iPhone 6 was in an Otterbox. It had to go in a bag of rice when we got home. My S7 was perfectly fine

Yea unfortunately I'm a pocket guy but then again, I have the baby 6S so it fits.

One thing I wasn't quite sure about regarding the rice - I filled a plastic bowl of rice about halfway. Put my phone on top of the rice at a slight downward angle (to drain any water that might've gotten inside) and then covered it. Are you supposed to put the phone IN the rice itself or what? Never quite understood that

She let hers drain through the port, and then covered it with rice. Unfortunately, she grabbed a bag of yellow rice, and her phone smells like saffron now.

I believe the correct way is to completely surround it with rice

Ok cool. Just wasn't sure if a few rice pieces would find themselves in the charging port or something.

Defender on iPhone 5 for 4.5 years and now Commuter on iPhone SE for 1.5 - no issues.

My only complaint about the otterbox was the rubber cover on them. Everytime I’d take my phone out of my pocket, it’d pull EVERYTHING out of my pocket with it (cash, ID, keys, etc... I lost $60 because of it once

Other that that, they’re fantastic. I haven’t had one in a few years so maybe they aren’t like that anymore

I use only Otterboxes they are the best. Smartphones are one of the most innovative designs in history, but the that is totally destroyed by the almost necessity of putting the thing in a protective box.

Otterbox bought LifeProof a while back for their waterproof technology. They are the same company.
