You can buy an RCA to HDMI converter at places like Walmart. Works fine. I hooked up my old N64 a while back.

Ran into this issue a few years ago with my N64. It wouldnt work on any of my new tvs even with the correct connections. Had to put it in the guest bedroom with an old lcd tv.

Do not just buy a generic RCA to HDMI converter. These are not made for games, they are made for regular video. This means they don't optimize the conversion and deinterlacing processes for low latency and pixel art; they are designed for full motion video. They all cheaply use a framebuffer to deinterlace 2 frames together at a time, meaning that your modern TV's incoming signal will always be at least 2 frames behind your actual source. That's before your TV adds its own logic that adds its own lag that CRTs back in the day didn't have.

Anyone who tells you there is no lag on these adapters just doesn't feel the lag and it's "good enough" for them. Every one of these has been analyzed with community devices like the Time Sleuth and they introduce significant enough lag to cause problems for lots of games (the standard for me is Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! for NES, it requires extremely good timing for me to be able to defeat Mike).

I have spent significant time and money installing HDMI upgrade kits (i.e. with soldering) on my consoles (and even used to offer install services by mail over the internet through message boards last decade). But these days, you don't need that, there is honestly one product that will cover most people: RetroTINK 2X Mini for $79.99. LINK It is a product designed and engineered by an American (Mike Chi) who runs his own small business making analog video scaling and conversion products for gamers. He has taken significant feedback from the community over the last few years and has created an amazing line of products (for my systems without HDMI modifications, I use his $299.99 RetroTINK5X-Pro which has advanced processing and filtering options). But really, just get the RetroTINK-2X Mini for $79.99 on Amazon, it will digitize composite and S-Video beautifully with video games in mind, and line-double the signal on the fly line-by-line (instead of after receiving 2 frames in a framebuffer) for extremely low latency.

I plugged my wii into my new Sony oled and, unsurprisingly, it looked like absolute trash.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the red and white and yellow. 6 month old Samsung LED. It seems I’ll have to play around with it and see. Need to play Goldeneye again!
