quote:no. That's for the dimmer switch without the remote.
Is that for that Lutron that includes the remote?
I know other places carry it I just want a good price for them. I need like 2-5 dimmer switches for the outside lights and fans I have.
So I don't want to spend 250 bucks on dimmer switches.

Compare prices.
I think there is only about a $5 difference between the Lutron without the remote and the main reason for the remote is if you are changing a 3 way light that uses two switches.
The thing most people don't realize when updating a light switch is if 2 switches control a single light you have a problem because that second switch will kill the power to the light if toggled (mechanical switch) which screws up the other powered smart switch you just installed.
The solution GE offers is a $20 slave switch or you can put a switch cover over the other switch or in Lutron's more elegant solution...replace the other switch with the pico remote so both switches continue to work as expected.
Eta in other words even if you are replacing a single light switch with the Lutron, having the remote isn't a bad thing and if you ever moved the Lutron to control a light with 2 switches you're good to go.
But if you're looking at a $20 difference between these it's probably not worth it.

I use an outlink to power my current undercabinet lighting. They need replacing though.

CAD, so I got some GE link bulbs and the link hub.
First two worked fine, very happy with them, so I bought two more. Can't get either to connect. Reset both multiple times, and every time they flash like they're connected but they never show up as connected and time out.
Know anything about this? Seems like it may not be that uncommon, so if this has been addressed just let me know and I'll go read through trying to find it.

I have heard lots of negative things about that link hub and lights disconnecting. I don't know much about it but I do know it doesn't have all the radios the full wink hub has.

Do you think I'd be better off getting a full wink hub going forward?

So, do I need the bulb manufacturer's hub or can I use the WINK hub for both the GE or Philips bulbs or light strips?

No doubt. i think i'll spread my purchases out over paychecks. it will make me feel better about spending that much on light switches.

quote:absolutely. Or smarthings or vera. You need a hub that support all the connected standards to effectively build out any home automation.

Depends on the bulb. Connected by tcp and Phillips required expensive and proprietary controllers to integrate with wink.
GE, CREE, go control and just about any new bulb or lightswitch coming out just use generic communication like zwave or zigbee

Anyone with SmartThings do you know of a way to have a routine executed if and only if someone is home.
For instance i want the Good Morning routine to be excuted only on days my step daughter is staying with us and not on days she's staying with her dad.
I don't really see where presence is an option. You can only have it not execute something based on the mode it's in but that doesn't work for this situation.

cad are there any other options for doorbell cams other than the Ring and Skybell?

Everyone says they all suck at the moment. Ring apparently tries to drive you into some monthly subscription and suffers from motion false alarms if there is too much sunshine.

Cool. Bought Wink. It'll be here today thanks to you-know-who

The Ring works like a champ. It's free to use but $3 a month or $30 a year if you want to record clips. The motion's sensitivity can be adjusted and works great. Downside is there is no 3rd party integration.
Skybell feels cheaper. Recording is free and it works with other Nest cams. I've heard some rumblings of other integration but haven't seen anything yet. Waiting to get some out in the wild before I pass judgment on it.
I'm looking forward to the 2gig version.

i want am ip camera that i can view via my home pc, or phone and records with motion and alerts me of a doorbell....
i might just have to get a small ip cam, and set up a motion sensor in my atrium that sends an alert when motion happens.

quote:There's a simple workaround. I have modes for certain presence configurations. If my SO is home alone, I have a mode called SO - Home. Same if only I am home. And then a simple "Home" mode if we're both home. That way you can base it off of who is home.
You can only have it not execute something based on the mode it's in but that doesn't work for this situation.
ETA: There is a better way though using Rule Machine. Rule Machine is a smart app and it's the best thing about SmartThings now. You can do anything and everything based on any rules you want. You can install here.
