apologies to tigerwise; i made fun of the $80 smart vents at lowes, but it looks like this company is providing a much more useful version of the same..and the vents are half the price:
Flair
watch the video
this is a much more complete solution than the odd random zwave vent and much cheaper to boot.
i especially like how it 'follows you around' and changes the temp to your personal preference wherever you go in the house.

I'm with you man. I'm preordering a puck and vent though. This has everything Ive been wanting. Bluetooth beacon support, battery power, ecobee integration, smartthings integration, etc.

There are gonna be a shite of these products on the market

We are definitely looking at more general triggering and wink robots integration, IFTTT etc
q&a with flair founder on wink reddit

Flair leverages the Wink ecosystem as well as providing sensor data and better control. Puck will offer scene selection among other fun integrations and this thread should serve as a great place to kick off discussion around what you want to see from this integration!

Sorry for an confusion here. We have 4x10, 4x12, 6x10, 6x12 coming in the first batch! We are doing the size follow ups after purchase (and before running cards) to make sure that people are measuring correctly (vent hole size is the number typically used to describe vents rather than outer dimensions which not everyone knows - understandably).
quote:
We will be adding additional sizes later this year but not in the first batch as we want to cover the majority of the market and focus on a few other pieces of the puzzle (quality and quantity of integrations). Adding sizes is rather cost effective due to our vent construction so we will definitely be looking into this relatively quickly

Speaking of smart vents:
CNET kills the Keen Vents (skip to around 1:00 mark for interesting part)
These things are just accidents waiting to happen apparently.

I ordered the flair. The puck alone is worth the $60 if the temp, humidity and occupancy/light sensor work well.
The owner of flair has stated all these sensors will be accessible in wink and available for robots.

so i'm seeing where the INTERMATIC timer has an achilles heel...see below
that is INSIDE the controller apparatus which is in turn INSIDE the waterproof case. note the little white 'zwave on' button on the first pic as it relates to the removed pcb in the second pic.
the problem is the zwave antenna is pinned down against the pcb and will be facing away from my house (pool breaker is outside stone wall for obvious reasons)
this dramatically reduces the 50-100 feet range most zwave antennas can handle.
one solution was to cut a hole in the apparatus and pull the antenna out (it would still be protected by the waterproof case) but that is a last ditch solution if i can't get it to talk to the hub.
i bought the leviton switch to help bolster my MESH network. in the image below i was only planning to add a screw-in zwave switch to the post light (yellow arrow) to try to bridge to the intermatic (red arrow) but by also installing a cheap leviton switch in the pool house directly behind the intermatic, i'm hoping the screw-in repeater will reach the leviton switch without difficulty, and the switch being 5 feet away from the intermatic, should then talk to it. this is insurance in case the screw-in doesn't reach because i can't have my pool pump non-operational once i install the switch.
another benefit is i can install a zwave door sensor in the pool house as well now and use that to detect if anyone is stealing my pool speaker

Looks like i can turn my gocontrol door sensors into water sensors
sure sounds a lot better than the full price leaksmart ones

How does that work? Those sensors just detect open/close status based on the magnet right?

Also got a response back from the flair guy:
quote:
The humidity sensor is quite accurate (within 4%) and the reporting time can be adjusted but defaults to every 30 seconds. I think the simplest way to do what you are describing is to use a Wink Robot (as you suggested) to turn things on and off based on the Humidity Levels.
Ambient Light for movement is a bit tricky but it definitely can help adjust the lighting based on the amount of sunlight for instance. If you turned on the lights via the regular light switch the jump in room light can be used to trigger occupancy and you can also leverage the bluetooth beacon for occupancy (down to the specific person).
Glad you are excited! We wanted to build a flexible device for exactly the sort of purposes you have mentioned but kept the marketing simple and focused as we were concerned that it might be confusing.
