you didn't get the 'ghetto' $5999 starter model with plastic trim and FM radio right? You opted to upgrade those to a decent machine first I hope.

psssh, what kind of Plex box do you think I'm trying to build? Of course I went with the 28 core option and 128 GB of RAM.

There are so many techy/geeky inside jokes in this thread. The average person has no idea what is wrong with a Radeon Pro 580x.

It baffles me why people give this company money. That's the biggest RIP off I've seen in a long time.

The old trash can it is $800 to go from 16gb to 64gb. I am thinking around 20-30k from apple for that much memory

To be fair, their base machines across the board arent really bad deals when you consider the whole package, it's when you start adding RAM/storage etc they get laughably overpriced. In fact I'd argue the iPad is easily the best deal out there for a tablet overall, especially when it's $250. Nobody can really touch that at that price-point.

But then Apple just completely outdid themselves with this machine. They literally priced even the high end pro consumer almost completely out of the desktop pro line with this starting point, yet they put components in it they could have easily charged half as much probably....when the mac pro was normally an entry price of $3k. I mean if they put 64 GB RAM with a 16 core Xeon and higher end workstation card as the starting point, so be it for $6k, but an 8 core with 32 GB RAM and Radeon 580X

Quite literally the only people who will buy this are big businesses with near unlimited budgets. That wont make this machine a success at all.

I doubt those would even purchase this if they already have the trashcan Mac

From what I've read, it doesnt come with one.

You either purchase the $199 VESA mount to make it VESA compatible or the $999 stand.

It isnt VESA compatible out of the box.

baw! apple can't be giving away free stands for monitors at that price. they'd be losing money on every $5,000 32" screen going out the door.

That is their target market with this product. They dont really think consumers are purchasing it. been that way for a while now the Mac Pro. They would rather you just purchase a MB pro or imac

Holy shite. I laugh at people who actually buy this shite

I know people that do. They produce music, videos/effects, art, etc and for them it's about their work flow so the integration of software and overall user experience is valuable. They're not using it to game.

Trashcan mac pro was definitely aimed at consumers first, not big business. Starts at $3k.

There's just no high end standalone desktop Mac now for high end consumer/pros. You have to get the imac pro with the screen already attached to it and costs $5k.
