Seriously? I would never hope my kids spend that much money on me. My dad would think I was an idiot if I spent a $1,000 on a toy for him for father's day.

I was flying my phantom today for a project. All of a sudden, as I'm finishing up, the thing goes absolute ape shite. Lost all control. Completely off balance, sideways, everything. As I'm trying to bring it down, my iPhone overheats and shuts down.
Remote became useless. It fell to the ground, then took off about 50 feet in the air again. Hit a truck, then a building, then a tree. Fell back down to the ground. I was able to catch it and pull the battery. Broke 2 props and prop guards.
A few hours later, as bad as I hated to try, I had to fly again. Drone operated fine, but the iPhone shut down again. It's been a bad fricking day for my nerves.

Which model? I watched a video like that earlier this week. Sucks but at least you got it back. Have you contacted DJI about it?

Vision 2+. I think the battery overheated and wigged the whole thing out. I've been using the spare and it's been seemingly ok. Haven't contacted dji yet.

Bought one for $12 on www.meh.com the other day. Just flew it for the first time tonight. Gotta get the hang of the joystick flying.
Spending 100 times that on one would need to be utilized for commercial applications in a small or side business. Otherwise it's absolutely ludicrous as a gift at that price.

got my phantom in today and made my maiden flight earlier. the unit was surprisingly easy and super fun to fly... time to order more batteries

Glad you like it! I sent mine into the side of ft desoto in FL this weekend. Dug it out of the bushes and worked perfectly
Head back to b&h and get a knock off go pro sjcam sj4000 for 68 bucks and attach it to the phantom

yeah they seem pretty tough. I have a little over 30 min time and havent crashed yet.
I had ordered a refurb gopro hero3 but I went ahead and ordered the sjcam from amazon and will send back the gopro if the sjcam works decently.
are you using a gimbal?

No need for a gimbal. Just make sure you get an sjcam sj4000. There are knock offs of the knock off

I tested the RTH function and it worked great today. so far I have got the drone out about 700 feet from me. how much more range do you think I have?
