Or what to look for.
Lightning just struck the house and the only things to get fried were on surge protectors.
Aka living room tv, router, receiver, etc.

Most surge protectors will keep letting power through after they have failed.
APC makes some that will stop the flow of power once they failed. So I recommend APC.
But there ain't much gonna help with a direct lightning hit.

I've always been partial to Tripp Lite. Just make sure you get something that has an alert (or even better if it disables itself) if the surge protection is no longer active.
Most surge protectors have a component (MOV) that absorb surges. MOVs are rated to handle up to a certain amount of joules before they stop working. Cheaper surge protectors will keep providing power even though the MOV has failed.
For my home theater, I use a Panamax unit as I wanted something nicer looking to fit in my stand.

Ditto. I also have in-wall surge protector outlets for my TV and Tower speakers with built in subs

Consider using a small UPS (something like a 600VA), they have pretty good surge protection built in and keep things like your router up during outages.
As mentioned look for the better quality ones as they will use MOV's to help protect from close lightning strikes. If they pop they are cheap and easy to replace (if you don't want to replace the UPS)

I had an electrician install a whole house surge protector at the circuit breaker panel. Additionally I have high quality surge protectors strips on all the electronics, fridge and freezer. Knock on wood...so far so good.

No cheap surge protector will stop lightning. Not even whole house. Same happened to me. But pretty sure it came through coax, then HDMI and network cables from modem.

Yeah, after looking at everything the next day it appears that it hit our neighbors house and made its way into our house through the ethernet cable from the box outside. Fried the tv, receiver, router, and old xbox 360 all of which were hardwired into the router.

Big fear along with a fire. Get a whole house at the panel and you can look at triplite AV2FP Isobar. It has the most Jules listed of their products at 5100. Also has Coax and RJ45 ports for protection.
May still not protect a direct hit like that but it seems good on paper.
