My laptop keeps turning on in the middle of the night.

It's in my bedroom and every night between 2 and 3 it comes on. I've researched solutions and changed settings, but ir still wakes me up every night. Yes, I could close it when I go to bed, but I usually forget to do that. Suggestions?

Wakes up or turns on? What state is the device in when you walk away?

You're going to have to tell him how to check the ACPI state, I doubt OP knows the difference between sleep and hibernate.

In fairness, considering hibernate is hidden by default, if he doesn’t know the difference, presumably he couldn’t have turned it on to begin with
