THE LIGHTIFY CLOUD SERVERS WILL BE SWITCHED OFF ON AUGUST 31st 2021
Dear LIGHTIFY User,

Unfortunately, we have to share some bad news with you today. After five years of service, we have taken the tough decision to shut-off the LIGHTFY cloud servers on August 31st, 2021.

this is why you want everything on local control.

This is why I stick with Philips Hue.

Maybe more expensive but I can find the deals I need.

No issues for me

Yep. And go with a company that is more diverse than just an automation platform. Though it's not a 100% guarantee that they won't retire the platform at some point.

To control your smart lights and plugs beyond August 31st, 2021, you need to fully reset your entire system. Afterwards you can simply integrate it into any other ZigBee® compatible system – like other smart lighting or smart home systems with intelligent assistants that are available on the market.

So, all you would need is Zigbee hub, many of which can be used with local control, to still use all of your lightify devices.

paired it with my hue zigbee hub. lost ability to change colors and whiteness levels so there's that.

Slightly dumb question but does Siri/Apple HomePod/Apple HomeKit go through the "cloud"? I thought I remembered reading that their stuff seems more hardware based and that's why it was a bit more secure.

I think I have that only partially true.

Yes on HomeKit. Siri's processing is done locally (unless you're specifically looking for information outside of your devices, i.e. internet searches), which is partially why it's so far behind other "smart" assistants.

They work perfectly on my raspbee/home assistant setup.

i have hubitat but haven't had time to try pairing them yet to see if the color changing features remain intact.

to the other poster; anything that uses *WIFI* is cloud-based, period.

local control does not use wifi but local radio; either lutron, zigbee or zwave.

Hue isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so I don’t have any concern about that. Plus they all connect to SmartThings and HomeKit so either way I’m good to go

Hue as a whole is not going anywhere but they will definitely phase out stuff.

Not intirely true. MQTT is used with wifi devices over local network.

However, the majority of wifi devices ping servers in China.

Devices from [link=(Shelly.cloud)]shelly[/link] support MQTT natively with out firmware mods.

Again I hate to break it to you but ST and homekit are just connecting to hue's API on their cloud server. Hue ever shut that down and everything else goes away too.

I agree hue is doing well and likely will be around for awhile but don't get too comfortable.

Everyone who likes having Alexa or Google to voice control their lightbulbs by definition have to connect to that cloud in China to access that wifi bulb.

Not true either. I have a Philips hue emulator that allows me to use Alexa locally to control devices through home assistant. But think it also works with smarthings and hubitat.

How do you use Alexa without having it connect to AWS?

No matter what you're dependent on the web if you use Alexa or Google.

Alexa doesn't have to go out to the cloud to talk to local devices. I know with the echo show things can be controlled from the screen, I'm not 100% on voice recognition.
