On Cox’s list of certified cable modems for my 100 Mbps package, they have a Netgear C6300 model for $180 and an Arris SBG6700AC model for $100. Is the netgear modem worth the extra $80. I’m not a tech savvy guy and don’t want to overspend, but also don’t want to buy a bad product.

Could y’all also recommend a router?

Both of the modems you listed have routers and wifi built in. The Netgear is also a 4 port switch (like a typical standalone router).

Personally, I don't like these combo devices. From what I've read they don't do either job as well as separate dedicated devices. I don't know the Tech Board recs of the day, but I've had good luck with this modem for $68. And ASUS and Netgear (Nighthawk) routers tend to get good reviews.

I have this one.

ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem- Retail Package- Black LINK

I was hooking one up at my dad's house the other day to get rid of cox's 2 in 1 piece of crap. They tried to tell me I wouldn't get over 100 mbps download with that modem. Not only is it rated for ~300 mbps, but I get well over 100 mbps on the same modem at my house. Don't fall for their bullshite. This is all you need.

Not a fan of combined modem and router. Get separate for best results.

If you are buying a modem you don’t have to buy it from them

I was told go get something with like 32 channels

I got some doc 3.0 modem I think so I could get the 300 mb package

If you ever plan to get gigablast you might need a 3.1 modem, although my modem says it can go past 1gb.. I’m unsure. I don’t know much about modems. I just know I hated the combo modem from cox so much I bought my own modem to pair with my nighthawk router
