Kenmore microwave was running but not heating or turning.
Changed the diode.
Magnetron tested ok.
Put back together and worked ok. Then I hung it back up (under counter mount) and it worked for one day. Then, the next day, it worked if I lifted up on the door while running. Then back to square one.
Took back down and all three door switches checkout. Changed the middle one just because I had a new one (justified taking it back down).

Any advice on what to do next? Besides buy a new one...

Thanks.

Door switches in my experience usually don’t allow it to start or turn

I’ve replaced 3 magnetrons and both times it turned on like normal but just didn’t ‘heat’, the 3rd time was a door switch lol. If your turn table isn’t turning, I’m not sure. Don’t think that’s magnetron.

You can pop the door switches open. There are two kinds, some stay open and some keep the circuit closed. So make sure you put them back correctly. But they are easy to see if they are good when opened up, the bad ones are burned up on the inside.

I re read. So you moved the door basically and it worked. Almost definitely a door switch. Be careful if you take it apart they call look the same but like I said above some are always open some always closed.

That attitude is probably why appliances don’t last as long as they used to. Planned obsolescence.

Dating as far back as at least GHW Bush every POTUS has memo'd a request to manufacturers to intentionally and specifically design and build everything to last no longer than 5 years. Since it is sent to the private sector it is not a decree or a presidential order, only a request, which is why there are a few quality manufacturers around still. (The CEO/president of the small bank I worked for in Tulsa had a copy from Bush jr., effects and affects commercial lending to an extent)

FFS, you can get a new one from Walmart for $55. Yet, you're screwing around with capacitors and magnetrons for devices you don't have a circuit diagram for?

If you're bored, go paint some miniatures. Don't dick around with high wattage devices.

I am on my 3rd microwave in the past 10 years. And the one I bought just over a month ago is already making strange sounds. I have purchased 3 different brands and I cannot seem to find a reliable microwave that can last longer than 3 years.

We've made good use of Amazon's and Best Buy's extended warranty deals on even items around $50 on up. Cheap Chinesium breaks so rapidly and the warranty is so cheap it pays for itself for us. We've had 2 Samsung TV's, a microwave, and some small electronics replaced free. So far BB store brand counter top microwave is outperforming the warranty though. The GE under cabinet finally got restocked and replaced maybe 6 months ago so we'll see how that goes. (it was out of stock during Wu Flu)

As an update, it was a switch. Funny thing is they had all tested ok on the first pass. When I went back and opened one like you suggested, I could see the damage. Thanks for the help.
