Does anyone here have any experience with Microsoft Project? I didn't realize they had software like this and semi interested in it. I'd imagine easy links with Excel, word, etc would be beneficial.

We have a guy that uses it in the office, says that it links easy with sharepoint for collaboration and outlook. I am going to try and work with it some more myself mainly to bring utilizes its functionality with resource tracking/allocation and budgeting. I will let you know if I have any hot takes.
I have been trying out a bunch of web products lately, but my main problem is that I am looking to create a program management solution with project management products and there just isn't the extra layer of functionality out there that I need.
As far as pure project management software goes, I highly suggest trello and campfire. I use them in some agile based software development, but you can take the kanban boards in trello and fit them to meet any project if you are focused on quality and tasks instead of resources and budget.

Totally understood, version 1.0 of Project wasn't released until 1984.

Played around with it for a couple hours and couldn't ever get the sync to SharePoint to work. This doesn't really seem like its a good fit when you have hundreds of projects to track. I liked the idea of using Project for the scheduling allowing my managers to interface with SharePoint, but again that doesn't seem to be clicking.

MS Project is a very powerful project management tool. It can (with the correct inputs) do all of the following:
- Track project progress, Gant charts, WBS
- Identify the critical path
- Provide Earned Value reports
- Identify resource issues (overloaded team members)
...and a whole lot more.
Importing and exporting data from MS Project is easy, but I rarely need to.

Worked with it for about a year and a half but only tracked timeframes for progress and deliverables. Was effective once you got used to it. I have a customized tracking system at my job so it became unnecessary a few years back.
Before that I ran everything off of Outlook Tasks, To Do’s and Follow Ups.

It works with our Office 365 solution. It works okay. Just make a task list and sync to that. We are having read only problems with it though. If I sync a file the project managers below me only can open it in read only mode. Other than that it works. You can update in SharePoint and then it will update in project and vice versa sans the read only issue. My tech team is working on the solution.
