The Pro is "better" but it's more a matter of what you need. Most of my work is in cloud consoles and remote environments so I didn't need to extra compute power of the Pro, so I went with the Air and I absolutely love it.
ETA: I also have a Windows365 machine that I can remote into when I need to do some Windows development, and it even works great for that too.

obviously the pro is better but the specs on the air can handle anything i would need to use it for.
I'm thinking of just buying a mini for my house and then use the air for when i am traveling or at a cafe

I have a 16 inch pro and 13 inch Air. I use the MBP sitting in my home office, rarely does it leave the office. I use the Air everywhere else. Other than some photography/video stuff (recreationally) I never really choose the MBP over the Air or find the Air not up to my tasks.
FWIW, I had the MBP by itself for 6 months or so prior to picking up the Air, and it was perfectly fine. I enjoy using it at my desk and I didn't hate using it as my full time laptop. I like have a smaller and lighter computer, but I didn't get the Air because I hated the MBP, I got it because I decided I wasn't really using my iPad Pro set up (so I swapped that and got the Air as an everyday/travel computer).

Air is a much better value unless there’s a specific feature of the Pro that you need. I like the fanless design. And the difference in price easily makes up for the peripherals required to match the ports on the Pro.
If you need the processor upgrade, you’re unlikely to be asking the question at all. Bump the RAM to 16gb and enjoy the savings.

The air is a better value and will do anything a normal person would do.
